has anyone done it? if so, roughly how big is the whole unit? i know i will more then likely have to build some sort of box if i decide to go through with it. i wanted to put it on the roof inbetween the sunvisors....i don't even know if it would be possible (talk about your crazy ideas!!) and if i manage to get that to work, i thought about putting the power window buttons (when i put those in) where the HVAC is now, along with maybe switches for lights or something. thoughts on the idea??
HVAC in the roof would be cool...would that work?
you'd have to extend quite a bit of wiring and vacuum lines... but that could be done. the whole assembly is rather small, so it wouldn't take up too much space.
get one of the "boxes" for mounting a radio under the dash etc... you can put the HVAC controls just about any place then... over head would be hard to keep the vacume lines working right but the wires would be easy.
its been done many times. if you did a search you would have found that out. anyways the 1st pic in the link below shows the HVAC put where the windshield vent is and theres many more ideas if you search. i put mine in the arm rest but have no pics.

cool, now that i know it will work, it's just a matter of making it work. well, wish me luck
i'll be sure to let you all know how it turns out. and i'll try to remember to do a search with the next idea i come up with orangecavy.
Yep, I have posted this quite a few times about how to go about lenghtening everything and what materials to use, etc. If you run into a problem send me an email.

ok i got a question
when i disconnect the vacumn lines will it mess them up or loos the vacumn???
i got a question about this as well if i can.... im just wanting to do a simple move how hard would it be to move the HVAC to the glove box or something like that and what is intelled in doing it like what would have to be done ???
Chris, I see so many people doing this but no one can tell what is involved with doing it im just curious as to what ya have to do to move it lol
I am not one to ever cry search, but I have given how-to directions on this in this forum several times with a list of what you need to buy to make it work. Take a look and if you still have any questions send me an email.

I took out my HVAC to dye my dash, and at first the vaccuum system didnt work (air blew out of all vents at the same time) but after like a week, maybe less, the vaccuum returned and everything works normal again...it took me a week, but keep in mind I rarely use it.
mennitti i spent a good hour today and could not find it anywheres so if you could either post them or a linky that i could use thank you
me and twisted just want to know what we need and how to do it!
ok guys i found out what i needed to know all but one thing do i need to pull the steering wheel to remove the bottom part of the dash??? i want to put the hvac in the glove box but in order for wire to reach supposely you have to remove the whole dash???
hey Chris, if you could, could ya shoot what you found out to me ??? i have done 3 searches and either I'm not doing it right or something because all i find is other people asking the same questions.... thanks in advance

"Extending the wires is the easy part. For vaccuum lines I used MOPAR windshield washer hose which allowed me to splice and fit over top of the original Cavalier vaccuum lines perfectly.
For the temp control, I used a 6 foot choke cable. I do not recommend using the choke cable. It is tempermental on humid days and becomes difficult to turn the knob. I would use something else." Like a bicycle brake cable.
"Also, handle the HVAC with care. When mounting it in the console an internal spring dislocated (freak occurance) and shorted itself out across terminals, which caused all kinds of headaches trying to figure out the problem."
This should be the most recent. I think it answers most of your questions.

When you start the car the vaccuum will return to your lines. Just don't start it when the lines are disconnected.
I extended all my lines, cable, and wires. There was no need for me to remove the whole dash. I would think you could disconnect everything from the hvac unit and route your wires where you want them, you would have to cut a whole in the side of the glovebox anyhow. Maybe someone else who only moved theirs to the glovebox could better answer that question. But yes, if you remove the whole dash, you must remove the column.

ok one questiono you extend the small wires. will they stretch or what.
im also wanting to put mine in center console.
No they don't stretch, you need to lengthen them.
