The 03+ Sunfire aswell as alot of new vehicles have the emergency thing in order to put it into reverse. How do you get around that, and how on earth do you remove the Shift Knob to put in an after market one specificaly in an 03+ Sunfire! Thanks

I beleive that the nob is just pressed on, so you just have to pull and twist and work it off. I'm pretty sure anyway.

i put a new shift knob on my 03 cavy. twist and pull the knob to get it off. then for the reverse lock i had to take out the black pastic piece and sits on the auctal shifter and grind off the bottom part where the reverse lock feature is installed. Not too challenging.

Any sure fire way to remove the knob without destroying it? I have a new knob, but want the option to re-use my old one if need be.

i took mine off from my 04 cav. i dont think its much of a diff from a sunfire. n e ways mine just twisted off. took a lil muscle and strenght but it came off. there are not screws or anything just twist and pull. i also took of the safty latch for the reverse thing. its not necessary to have it on unless somehow ur driving and pop it in reverse all of a sudden. but i mean who does that?

thanks. I twisted mine off earlier just to see if it would work. I can still put it back on if i want to. And i have had my girlfriend accidentally grab reverse while i was teaching her to drive it. She only stalled it once while learning, too.

just twist and pull to get it off, it helps sometimes to get really drunk so you stop caring if you break it

and to remove the lockout, just, when the knob is off, slide the plastic lockout thing off of the shift lever.

only problem is that with it gone, the boot won't stay up, so you have to zip tie it or something. i just pushed the boot all the way down, as far as i could.......and i know it sounds perverted, but then i polished my shaft
