Tinted Windows
Monday, September 12, 2005 6:06 PM
Hey, I was wondering if $200 is a good price for removal and replacement of tinted windows. I took my car to Audio Excellence and they said that it would cost $200. Is this a good amount for this procedure. Also, I was wondering, would the car still look good if i had 5% tint on the side windows & had 20% on the rear, i would like to deter cops from pulling me over or is it better just to have 5% all the way around. Thanks for you help.

5% will get you hasseled by the cops, i've never had that dark but anyone i know with tint that dark has had to remove it bc it was too dark. as for the price i think that is a very good price, i paid 270 or for my windows to be tinted with a 5yr warranty.

200 is not bad. i got mine put on for 140 with lifetime warranty. just look around and try to find a cheaper place. As for the 5% tint what color is ur car? some cars just dont look good with 5% tint.

i didnt mean 2 sound mean its just that ive seen cars with 5% tint that really dont look good on the car. im sure ill look good on the cav cuz i have 5% tint.

dragoncrester just a heads up when you get your back window tinttd the tint will prob not stick on to your glass on top because of the dot matrix but you prob know that already.

ask if they guaruntee no bubbles in it... or little hairs... or other little pieces of @!#$ under the tint. And how long they guaruntee it for, and then ask to feel the tint and if it only feels as thick as a regular sheet of paper find someone that uses better tint. I payed 170 and i am very unsatisfied.

For $200, a strip and retint sounds like a good deal to me, but only if the tint has a lifetime warranty.

If you want to strip the side windows yourself, it is not difficult. The back window with defroster lines is the headache. I paid $70 for a tinter to strip some back window tint that was pry over 10 years old. He started his steamer trick at 8:30am or 9am. He was completely done at 3:30pm with the retint. He told me that it was worse than he estimated, and had to put off tinting a car until the next day due to it.

It all depends on the laws of the state you live in and what kind of mood the cops are in. I live in nys and have had my windows tinted almost 7 years and only got two tickets. Tint here is all illegal unless its factory installed. You cant even have new tinted glass put in if your original wasnt... but then agian thats NYS for ya. I am in the process of takin mine off now because instead of a $25 ticket its not at least that plus a $65 mandatory court cost. I didnt mind paying the $25 but I am not gonna pay almost $100 becase a cop is in a bad mood.

i was just talking to this guy who did my windows, and he said that getting your windows retinted can actually make it worse than it was before because of the adhesive that the former tint left behind.

also, be careful with that 5%, i have had a problem with it and it sucks, because depending on the cop they can make you take the tint off right then and there if you get pulled over.

and to cover up that dot matrix problem, get a rear window black vinyl drop on the back and it covers that ugly dot matrix right up.

good luck

True on the adhesive. I got warned about that from the tinter when I told him that I would strip my own side windows. I triple bladed with Windex after the initial removal. No problem.

A good tinter will tint over the dot matrix with no problem.
