Pulling Cranks off Door Panel

I want to start off saying yes I have read the FAQ, heres the part that I am referring too.

How the heck do I get these window cranks off?!

First, pull your crank away from the door panel. See that c-clip? You have a few choices here:

a) Buy the GM window crank tool at your local auto parts store (if you're not careful with this, it will scratch your panel badly).
b) Use a rag and jimmy it around the crank until the clip comes off.
c) Bend an ice pick and push the clip out by one end (this is what I did, works like a charm without scratching my interior paint!).

My Question:

Should I try taking the CRANK off first before I remove the the 4 screws on the bottom, 2 bolts in the handle, and the clips?

cause I cant get that damn thing off. Spent like an hour or two messing with it, I know I was doing something wrong

Any suggesting to get his damn thing off so I can finish painting my interior?

Doesnt matter if you remove the screws or not...

Get a rag- not a towel....

Make the window crank face down-- Take the rag, slide it in from the bottom- holding it flat against the door panel... Slip the rag right under the main part of the window crank, slide the rag back a forth a little bit while pulling up...

The little C clip comes out from the top... Sometimes it pops right out, other times its just pops up a little bit, and you would use a small screwdriver or something to pull it out.

theres a thin plastic washer between the crank and the door panel...the rag has to be between the washer and the crank in order to hit the clip

I bought the tool. Much easier. Took me like 20 sec. to get it off. Plus I keep on taking the door panel off all te time so it was worthed buying it. $5 at autozone. Saves you headaches and a lot of swearing $#@*.
