blackcat customs 140mph gauge cluster conversion
Thursday, August 18, 2005 9:18 PM
blackcat customs has a 140mph gauge cluster conversion for $209, if you send your old cluster back. My cav has that fuel shut, off when you get up around 110mph. is there something to change the fuel cut off, to make spending the money on the conversion kit worth it? because with a stock cav it does'nt go past 110mph. any help would help, and let me know what you guys think about this conversion.

so you think just because you have a cluster that reads 140, means you can go that fast?

no i'm not looking to go fast but spending that much money on a gauge cluster that the needle can never reach is the biggest waste of money. im looking more towards if this conversion is worth it or not.

its not

From what I know, the cluster has to be swapped. You need a new fuel unit which runs about $1000, and an ECU flash. Just to be able to go over 108, isn't worth it.

umm technicly you only need to do a vss mod which turns off the speed limiter...but thats highly illegal and not needed...

um...then why get a cluster that goes up to 140? it seems pointless to me

you're logic makes no sense. you want to get a 140 mph cluster. you say you don't wanna go over that fast but yet you wanna know how to bypass the limiter. if you're not going to go that fast why bypass the limiter. just pretend it isn't there and drive normal. and since from your registry you have a stock cavi, you need a nice looooonnnnnnnnnnngggggg road to get that fast anyways if you bypass the limiter. basically at this point i'd say do it for looks now. or wait and build up that engine then get it for functionality. and by then you should know how to bypass the limiter anyways.

I had the 140mph cluster on my 04 fire... I got it to be different from everyone else, and not have the same old overlay. I didn't care my car was not capable of going that fast. To me it was something origional and I liked it.

it doesn't matter if your speedo reads up to mach 3, it will still read zero if you do the vss mod anyways.

like deadbob said, getting it to be different from the others is a good idea if you don't mind spending the cash, me i will just spend some time and get an overlay that i like.

your choice, just think it over and you do you.

in what state is that illegal? Not this one, unless you're counting the normal speed limit.

its called federal law, considering it is unsafe operation of a vehicle, and the vss mod disables your odometer, resulting in false odometer reading...and of course the whole going about 108 mph...yea...its illegal....

there are other ways of going faster than 108, who says you need a reflash or to cut vss signal, all not needed to succeed

^ unless you're on a closed course, i hope you crash and wreck your car. don't get me wrong, i don't wish any physical pain to you. just want you to realize how stupid it is going that fast on a public road.

here is my outlook not that it matters or not... get the gauge cluster for looks don't tell anyone the real truth then the only one that will know it wont actually do 140 is you and anyone who looks in the car and can see where it says 140 will think it will do that and no one will be the wiser except ones that have a cavalier and know what the rev limiter stops it at

I am just wondering though, what would fifth gear redline at?? I am guessing around 130 mph. And the only time u would need to go that fast is if you got into professional circuit racing and you were racing on a course with a realllllllyyy long stretch.

i think it was either 123 or 143...one of those...

Hmm well if you are smart you can do it for under 100 bucks and make everything work right can your new speed limit could be 216.... As you all know you also make your speedo work correctly too.

When would it redline in 5th gear?

Lets work it out:

at 100 km/h ( 62MPH) RPM is at 2350

100 /2350 X 6500 = 277 km/h or 171 MPH

171 MPH, wow!
This is for my 2004 Ecotec 5spd.

Anybody know how fast a stock Cavalier could go if the speed limiter wasn't there??

I think it is only something around 118 or 120. I read it somewhere a while ago.
