How to take off shift knob on 2001 sunfire???

Ok i have looked for a pin and i have tried to pull it off and nothing is working... i have looked all threw my GM service manual (2 big books) and can not find it... any one know how to do it? as i am looking to cut it down some and add a different knob on the end

The pin is on the back of the shifter facing the hvac and radio. their should be a small slice in the shifter at the bottom. put the car in 1st gear ( hold the brake ) so you can see it better. take a flat head screw driver and pop it out. its very low-tec.

ahh sorry i didnt see that i missed saying it was for a standard.... but yea ill try the twisting tonight and see how it goes.
