I was just wondering how difficult it would be to put power windows in a roll down car? When I purchased my 05 LS Sport my brother got my 01 Cavalier. The windows are still manual and we were just wondering how much it would cost to put all that in, and if it was a difficult job. Anything would help. Thanks everyone
All I got is a 2.2.... stock.... but you don't see me losin much!!!!!
i put power windows in my car that had manual ones. i bought an autoloc power window kit from aplusperformance. the install was very easy and the kit works great. i've never had any problems with it. you could also just go to a junkyard and pull the power window motors and regulators from a wrecked cavalier. a lot of people say that is easier

Hey how do your door panels look now? Do they have like that little cap to cover the crank knob thingy. If so how far does it stick out? pics?
thanks

the kit comes with several different caps to cover where the crank use to be. the ones that i am using only stick out about a half inch. my interior is all torn apart so unfortunately i can't get you any pics
I just did mine last week, wasn't to hard at all. But when you do this make sure that you can do the wiring properly, you can do what i did and rip out all of the stock wiring out of the donor car, then everything is also color coated to factory specs. If you want to do stock just give me an email.
hey thanks for the site reference. i've been wanting to do this for a while on my 03 base coupe but couldn't find a good kit. one problem though: theres like 30 or so kits listed on the site ranging from $127<-->$279. and a bunch of different switches (SW1, SW10??) can anyone suggest a kit if i just wanted a drivers and passengers switch that makes the window go up and down....?
thanks
this the kit that i bought. it came with everything i needed and the install was very straightforward and easy.
power window kit
i dont really know what kit to get but i think its a great idean of switching to power windows
hmm I will order this, I always wanted power windows, I got one question if I order two of these will they work cause I have a 4-door?

I'm a bit partial to this style case, think it's case k?
with switch 9
If/when I ever decide to do this swap, I'd mount em where the stock window crank was.
Looks like a good enough spot and there's already a hole there... and if that switch matches the charcoal interior color that would be even better.
Most of the kits were recently discontinued by Autoloc... The PW4450 is now our best seller, and the kit Autoloc recommends.

Hey Jason, with the kit you suggest do you think I would be able to grind the window crank knob down below the door panel? Or the does the kit use the whole length of the crank knob?
i have a 99 cavalier. i'm thinking about going to a junkyard to see if i can't find the motor and everything there. i take it only one from a 95-99 will work?? if any others would work that would be great. it would increase my chances of finding them.
How hard would it be to pull the power windows from a cavalier in the junk yard? My g/f cavalier is a 2001 with manual crank and I want it to look factory. I'm curious what parts I would have to grab and where all the wires run, I know they obviously run into the doors. Are there modules under the dash and what harnesses do they run into? Any if all information would be great.
Thanks,
Bob
I used a Spal window kit for mine, and it works great, easy install. Just look on ebay for keyword Spal, and you'll get plenty of results. It's going to be a lot less work for you to install one of the universal kits, then to get the factory ones from the boneyard. As far as looking factory, I seem to recall at the same time I did mine someone was posting on here asking for help with theirs. They were wireing the same kit I had into factory switches. As I recall it ended up working out pretty well for them. Just do a search, and I'm sure yo'll be able to find it. Hope that helps
I can't remember what site i was on but you could use your manual crank as the power window switch. You just push the handle up or down so you dont have to worry about the caps.I looks best on old classic cars so they appear stock

doesn't work on the SPAL kits, since it uses the crank gear, leaving the handle on would cause it to spin as the window moved. this could cause problems with injuring someone (yes it can happen) or causing wear on the motor that isn't needed (even breaking the motor if someone tried to force the window in the opposite direction that the motor was going.
SPAL makes a switch kit for differnt combinations (2 door, 4 door, 1 set of master switches, etc)
I have the kits I bought for my Cavalier for sale never installed since I'm getting 4 doors with power windows and locks off a doner car.

ok not bad at all. Thanks
so for an 04 cavalier, whats better spal or autoloc, which is easier to install too and which one is more compatible if i went with the stock switches
