Yeah, it's very common. It's a Cavalier, if it doesn't rattle it just isn't the same. You can try taking apart your dash and using rubber washers to pad things a bit. Not really sure what else you can try.

Yep, my whole f_cking dash jiggles around. Cavaliers are just junk! Never again will I buy a GM vehicle. I've had so many problems with this POS. Just sucks that when you drive it off the lot you lose $8,000 so I'm stuck with it for a while...........sorry had to vent too.

And as far as I know there is no bulletin or fix.

not very smart to base your entire opinion off of a companies bottom line low end car. you bought a cheap car, your not going to have a lexus quite enterior from a 10,000 car.

Well my dashboard doesn't and never has rattled. I've also owned 5 j-bodies and the only one I ever had a problem with is the 2004 Sunfire that my g/f has. And all i did was tighten the screws to proper tq specs and now it sits fine. My guess is it just didn't come right out of the factory. But hey it's a mass produced car, there will always be a few that don't come out right. And plus it's a cheap car not a high level one. Go in a corvette I bet nothing rattles.

sndsgood ~ I can base my opinion since my co-worker has a $40,000 GMC Envoy with loads of problems. Just as many, if not more as me. It doesn't matter if it is a low end vehicle or a high end. They just don't make good quality in my opinion. Maybe it is just bad luck for me, my co-worker and others that I know. (There are a lot of other people that I know with GM vehicles that are not happy with them.) If I spend $18,000 on a brand new vehicle, I should not expect this amount of problems. I can see 3 or 4 issues, but 20+:

.....That was my point. I don't expect a "Lexus" interior. Just one that doesn't make noise or bounce up and down. I just never saw a dash that "jiggles" up and down.

amen to that!

That said, there is alot of stuff you can do such as laying ruber strips down between metal parts that touch,

Dont get motor mounts if you dont like the rattles now, it doesnt get any better!

Why was the left mirror replaced 4 times? holy @!#$ thats alot of crap. if my car has that many problems by 30,000 i would trade it in.

nasty04cav ~ Mirror was replaced because of vibrating. New mirror did the same thing. They tried another. Same thing. So they try another. Doesn't vibrate, but this one was off an LS, so it wasn't painted. So they had to take it off and paint it and put it back on again.

**On a new car you shouldn't have to modify a dash so it doesn't rattle and bounce up and down either.**

Polo - I bet the guys at the dealership HATE to see you coming! lol Not that you're wrong - its ridiculous what you've had to go through...

Chalk me up as another Cav owner with NO dash trouble. My wife and I both have 03s - not a peep out of them. Hopefully I have not jinxed myself...

sounds like you just got a lemon, ive had my car for 4 years, and only issue i had was a paint blemish, and they fixed it for free as well as painting a few interior pieces for me.

If you hate that POS so much, then why have you spent so much money modding it. you could have sold it and spent the money saved on mods to buy a Honda or whatever it is you want. And you say that You'd never buy another GM, well in your profile it says that your wife has a 2005 Pontiac G6. If you have such a strong hatred for their cars, then did you put up a big fight with your wife when she got a new car??

And if someone has a problem car, everyone hears about it, but how many people had good experiences with their car, for the one person who had a bad car. My dad will never touch another Toyota product, because he had a Toyota truck a few years back, and it was a complete POS. He had nothing but problems with it. So by your logic, every Toyota product is Garbage.

My car is quiet, except the sunroof rattles when it's open, on a smooth surface. If you go over a slightly rough surface, EVERYTHING rattles, dash, doors, windows, and anything else that can rattle. But I know that when I got the car. But the fact remains, that I paid less for my fully loaded 2004 Cavalier Z24, then anything else in it's class. I paid about as much as a base model Chev Aveo.

sorry.... I had to vent too.

i have a 02 z24 cavalier. My dash doesnt rattle unless i dump the clutch and get wheel hop. I have motor and tranny mounts. Only thing that bothers me is the after market wiring harness with the lil chime box some times makes a lil noise. I could just put some foam or something around it but im to lazy so i deal with it lol

I have had a few probs with my 03 Cavi... but all in all, it has gotten me all over the US several times.

My dash makes a very small shifting noise at higher speed when body rolls, but it doesn't rattle.

I think you got the monday production car, either that or the Mandatory Saturday overtime production.

But I have heard of the problems in you list, my driver mirror was bouncy but not horrible and I knew I was going to replace it anyway so I let it go.

Worst noise from my 03 was the damned hubcaps they stopped using the rubber spacers behind the fake lugs, so they have play on the lugs.

Fixing the ratteling dash is not all that hard in most cases, I've had an 02 z24 and now my 03. both dashes rattled after a while. when you take off the top dash there are two rubber bushing things that hold the top dash to your dash (piece that goes around cluster radio etc.) a lot of the time when they are put on from the factory they get smashed off set or not even in, make sure those are firmly mounted. also you can put a small piece of dynamat under the dash, this will silence a lot of noise regardless where it comes from (under the dash vents etc) then when you bolt everything back up make sure the bolts are tight, I have also replaced all three of the screws that hold the top of the dash down by the de foger vent. I used slightly larger scres and tightned them down firm as well. Now I am noise free and it was no more then 50 cents to fix (with the exception of using dynamat which i only did in the 02).

even cheaper method is just to take some cloth , any spare cloth will do, i used leftover headliner material. and just put a layer on the inside of the dash panel. and between any plastic pieces when i got done i didnt hear a single creak or crack out of it.

I have a 96 cavalier thats had the same problem, so its not just the newer ones. I've tried everything possible to fix it. The only thing I have found to last is to take the top piece of the dash off, next loosen all the bolts on the front piece up againts the windshield that gets uncovered(you dont have to tak them out all the way). Next spray a dry lubricant on the bolts( the only dry lubricant I know if is made by Remingont and is called "Rem-DriLube". It is made for Firearms and can be found at most sporting goods stores and some Wal-marts, make sure it is the drilube tho.) Now when u put the top part of the dash back on, also spray those bolts. also spray around where the radio bezel and the top dash meet together. The nice part about the drilube is u can spray it around electronics(BUT NOT DIRECTLY IN THEM) and it wont hurt the inner workings. it does dry white and it wipes off the exposed part of the dash with water (armour-all works best)

Hope this is helpful

by the way I was gonna say this, The drilube comes in a green yellow and grey can with a yellow cap, most store clerks will know exactly what u want to, usually about 2 or 3 bucks for a 4 0z can
