i need to sand the runs out of the base coat on my plastic trim...i over compensated in one area and got a run in my base coat...like an idiot i tried to blotch it with a rag...i need to sand it down and recoat it...what grit should i use and how long should i wait until i can paint it again?

my bro says to wetsand it with 400 grain paper then wait about 24 hours and have at it again wiht the spray gun

Just remember when painting anything, putting on a heavy coat is not always a good idea. Light coats are the way to go to prevent runs and blemishes.
I'd say use 1000 grit and wetsand it (wet dry sandpaper, soaked in water, keep the surface wet.)
You can repaint as soon as it's thoroughly dry.
i also chipped the two sides around the spedo cluster...i sanded it down with 400 grit and repaited it...will the chips still show through?

not if you feathered them out enough... is it smooth where the chips are? If you can't feel any edges where the chips were you should be fine
