how to get this piece off for XM Radio

This probably is a stupid question but i need to know fast. I am installing my XM Radio, and the trim piece taht goes around the HVAC and cd player, and it goes all the way around the gauge cluster on my 96 z24, how does this come off? Do I need to take the whole dash apart to get it off? I hope there is some easier way than this. I have read the tutorials by Team Forward Motion, but they dont mention this piece.

Its not THAT bad to take the dash off. Your looking at about 10-15 min. Really nothing to bad. Get a buddy to help you.

sure u did........

5. Once the dash cover is off, you must remove the 3 bolts that hold down the trim plate around the radio and gauges. There are also clips all the way around it so (take your time because the trim plate will break fairly easily) just gently pry it loose with a small screwdriver. Pull the trim plate back and you will have access to the gauge cluster.

the only thing that will take you a little time is where to mount the xm box and to run the antenna wire

mount the xm tuner (if its NOT a plug and play) right on top your HVAC vents UNDER your top dash pad. this way if your ever broken into, its very challenging to steal it. thats what i did, and if i did it the way sirius wanted, i would have had my tuner stolen along with my subs last summer. ill take pics if you'd like, i think ive got some lying around.

i have trying to decide where to put the tuner at, i have even thought about fiberglassing a little "display type" box where the tuner would be like molded into the top dash pad or something facing the driver. My brother also has 2 mounting kits, one that he used, the puts the tuner right out infront of the ash tray, between taht and the shifter,a nd then just the plain car mounting bracket taht u can stick anywhere
