Mounting switches
Wednesday, April 20, 2005 4:34 PM
Hey guys, im starting to work on the interior of my car now. I have some lights and things I plan to hook on to these 5 rocker switches here. Can anyone tell me the ideal place to mount 5 switchs in the car? Or maybe some pictures of where people have mounted them in the cavaliers. Thanks guys.

Let your imagination run wild.....

I've been considering a custom guage pod later on, mounted on the roof, between the headline and roof, so it hangs in fromt of the driver over the usually tinted top area of the windshield.

You could also throw switches in the pod where power window switches go, if you have manual windows.

You could also remove your top two center heater vents, and make a custom switch pod there.

You could even mount them on the drivers side of the center console (on the side of it)

I don't have any pics for ya, but hopefully I've given you something to work with.

I used to just sit in my car, and look at it, thinking what I could put where...

Good Luck.

I know it's JUST a Cavalier, and I'm sorry if I hurt your ego.

another option is also a wireless remote controled switch, I have used it for mine and it works great, 4 button switches all controled by a remote so no switches to hide, just the remote in my pocket.

I like the remote idea. Do you have a link to the page where I could check it out?

I got mine from autozone, it was 35 bucks and I have not had and problems with it at all and it was easy to set up as well. Don't have a site to find any at, but autozone has then with all the other switches in that area.

Not the best photos. But you could get 5 in there no problem.

I went to autozone and picked up a Pilot flat panel 4 button switch, same thing alphawolf have I think. I like the interior btw Chris, very nice console there.

Wolf how did you mount the flat panel switch? The sticky stuff on it wont stick at all to the dash under my wheel.

I had no problems getting it to stick, but then again i used super 77.

I had the same problem as well, I had to get some 3M trim and side moulding tape to get mine to stick, and yep I used to have that switch but I replaced it with the one that was linked on pilot's site, the one with the wireless controler. I still have the flat panel one but not using it right now, though one of mine went out on that switch but I think it was a problem with a wire getting stuck in the twist nut and pulling the whole thing out, but eh, anyway if you have any other questions feel free to ask about that switch since I did have one for almost 6 months before I got this wireless one.

Just work on the edges till the rubber pops off.

Well any part of the inner medal dash frame is good, as well as the floor, firewall, or that little metal bracket for the scan hook up.

Or you can lengthen it by just adding the same gauge wire, strip one side and twist onto the original wire, and tape with electrical tape.

I don't have any pics, but I made a switch pannel out of the space in front of the cup holders. I just made a plate that screws into it to mount the switches in. There's plenty of room for 5 or 6 switches in there. Looks pretty good if you ask me. I also have 2 switches mounted in the panel where the power window switches are.

Id like to see some pics, maybe you can take some.

If you're talking to me about seeing pics I'm sorry to say I can't get any in the near future. My car is still at home and I am at school. But if you look at the about the third pick down that Carney posted you can see the area that I was talking about. The sqauarish hole in front of the two cup holders. I made a plate that fit over that and drilled out the holes for the switches to sit into. I gotta warn you though there is barely enough depth for the switches and wiring. I had to bend the tabs of the switches and wires so they would clear, but it does look pretty good. If you talking about the switches I mounted in the pannel with the power window switches I just drilled a hole above and below the window switches and put a switch in each one. The panel just pops right out so it's easy to get at the wiring. Sorry I can't get any pics but my body kits not done yet so I don't have my car back at school yet. Wow that's kinda a long reply. I guess that's what happens when it's 2:30 am and your drunk. Well hopefully that helps though.
