My 6x9s ground out on the metal because the hole isn't big enough, what are some creative ways you've mounted 6x9s right now there in a box in my trunk yuckk
never heard of speakers being "chassis ground"
I know this doesnt pertain to the situation but what size are the speakers that are in the trunk of a 96 cav?

it does happen. if you are trying to top mount instead of bottom mount the speakers many have the metal girders on the side that stick out too far. thats why I had to mount mine from the bottom.
From the bottom? do you have any pics?
a friend of mine has 6x9 in the doors z24 2D the door panel mounts on top of it and it looks like you have a stock speakers and another friend has them mounted in the door panel and you are able to see them as soon you open the door both of them are pioneer
I zip tied some cheapos in my trunk once.
Then i wised up, tuned my system, and now only run fronts, and an 8 inch, 200 watt sub.
Perfection.
i mounted them from the bottom holds really solid i can get pics if anyone is intrested.
