Saturday, January 22, 2011 7:08 PM
Hello Everyone
I recently bought a 2000 cavalier with only 85k and a bad motor.I had my mechanic put in a motor and trans with only 45k on them,I wanted to adjust my mileage to match so should I buy the cluster or Do I have to buy the BCM from the junkyard that sold me the setup?Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Yup, Odometer fraud... and if you do it yourself you'll land yourself in Federal Prison.

no matter how many miles you have on a new replacement motor, you cannot change the mileage on the actual car itself. whether or not your selling it.

^^^ exactly. Mileage is for the body, not powertrain.

im pretty sure you have to change out the BCM and ABS computers to change the mileage, its stored in multiple locations to prevent this if i remember correctly. Maybe have to change the ecm as well.

if that doesn't work... install your transmission and motor backwards so you can drive forward.

You'll realize how much we are helping you by telling you this is odometer fraud and automatically makes your vehicle a salvage title worth $0 and nearly impossible to insure. In fact I would not doubt your insurance company would drop you if they found out since the value of a vehicle depends on the mileage.

I'll refer the authorities to this thread, I'm sure they will be pleased.

Maybe take a cue from people who obviously know more than you.

In IN if its discoverd its just pop up "odometer discrepency" on the title, prolly show up in a carfax if someone enters it. Authorites could prolly care less.

that is VERY wrong, the authorities take odometer fraud extremely seriously. And it becomes a TMU vehicle (true milage unknown), and as indicated before, makes the car worth scrap value.
It is A LOT more than a "discrepancy" that pops up on Carfax.

OP, you dont get to reset your odometer for the engine.....it is miles on the CAR, period.
