Shift boot / ring question
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 10:04 AM
After talking with another JBOer about how much the clips suck and break so easily, Ric got to looking online at different brands of aftermarket rings and boots...
Anyone here found anything else aftermarket or another car's stock boot & ring to replace the whole thing with yet?
Ive been thru more boots and rings than I can remember.

I took mine to a red wing boot dealer and had a boot made. My retainer ring is only missing one clip I think so it still holds. But they did make me a shorter boot.

3 of my clips are broken. I tried jb weld, but that broke. Then I tired the little tubes of crazy glue that dries in like 10 seconds. A month later it's still holding. I also took off the stock boot, and got a black suede boot at pep boys, trimmed it down a little, and glued it on with Elmer's all purpose glue, and that's still holding perfect too.

I mean basically, glue it, let it dry completely, then gently put it in the dashboard, and don't touch it again. Whenever you have to remove it, keep a tube of crazy glue around and re-glue it if it comes undone. I haven't remved mine yet, but Idk if it will hold, but if it doesn't, I have more crazy glue waiting.

Someone correct me if Im wrong, but aren't the shift boots from the sunfires slightly better quality? I've heard of this issue with the cavalier shift boots and rings, though I remember reading somewhere that ones made for sunfire were made more durable than the cavaliers for whatever dumb ass reason.

I used a little piece of tin and riveted it to the broken tab and bent it into a new tab
