So during the summer I tried to get the air bag off so I could see the horn contact. Well I took out the too Torx screws and that loosened up the bag but didn't remove it. Problem was as soon as I loosened it up, the horn would start going off like mad...I had to pull back the bag to get the horn to stop. WTF.
So I tightened it back down and now I can barely able to get it to beep. Anyone have this situation before and what was the fix? I need to have the horn for state safety inspection and if I can't fix I might just get rid of the car. Thanks.
if the air bag bolts stripped be prepared for the fight of your life. I had that happen with my 97 gt daily, the bag would loosen up but not come off. after about a hour and tire iron later the bag was off and the steering wheel was junk. The little nuts that were welded to the back of the air back had broken and were just spinning. just be prepared to get another wheel from the yard. By no means is this worth selling a car over, just run a button or something for instection.
You were doing airbag work while the car still had power?
...dude...do you have a death wish?

When you remove the fuse...it won't blow.
I have the Helms manual and followed it to a T. I didn't have the correct tool to remove the bag. i didn't want to force it off and damage it.
Yeah but dude...what if the system had stored up energy or what if static electricity set it off? My rule of thumb is battery disconnected for 30mins prior and latex gloves while removing it. Glad it worked out for ya, though
The Helms manual is THE factory manual. that is what the dealers use.
They have a stored power cell. Its a capacitor so if your car loses power before you crash it still deploys.
Can also disconnect the big yellow connector under the dash that goes to the airbag....... and not sure if it's good to do on cavaliers, but touch both battery cables together (not on the battery itself....) to finish draining everything off.
