So I have installed a set of aftermarket fogs on my cavalier. I was able to get my hands on the OEM fog light switch, (dimmer and fogs). Only question is how does the wiring go for the fog lights. The switch has 3 wires, orange, black, and purple i believe. I have the fogs wired to a toggle switch right now, but i like the look of the factory switch. I also was reading that the switch would have to be wired through a relay. Is this true? Any help or pictures would be appreciated.

Eventually, I will be looking to do the same. I just picked up the faceplace with the foglights/dimmer on ebay today for $3.50, I was pretty stoked!
After finishing the re-wire job on my 99-00 headlight conversion (again for H.I.D.'s), I ran across some wiring schematics also for the gauge cluster and some articles. (I'm also going to try to put a '00-'05 tach cluster in my '99) I ran across a lot of forums and such looking for some info on wiring schematics.
Now i know the stock foglights are wired so that if the HI-BEAMS are on, they will turn off. Now i did glance breifly at a way to get around that, which I'm pretty sure if it's anything like the DRL's for the '99-'00 conversion, then yes you would need to re wire things and possibly use a relay for it.
Let me look around a bit and i'll see if i can't get back to you with an answer.

That cluster needs to communicate with the BCM which wasnt found in Js until 2000. Also the mounting points are different.

...and my 95-99 Z switch has been working with my Hella 1300's for about a year now. The wire colors you have sounds like 00+ which won't work since it's not a toggle switch. Be sure to use the relay that comes with most aftermarket fogs.

I knew the mounting points were different and wondered where/if the '99s had a BCM. Guess that answer my question to that, it'll just have to wait for the Eco swap, being the car will then have a BCM.
Ty for the info!

I had gotten the fog light switch from a junkyard, and it was out of an 03-05 cavalier. The switch is not a toggle like stated above, it is a "momentary" switch with no illumination. And the wires are orange, black and purple,. Im guessing the black is ground but not sure about the orange and purple. If anyone has a wiring diagram, that would probably be my best bet. Thanks

That's why you need one out of a 95-99 Cav

i wanted to post this after reading it the first time lol./// but hes right. you need the switch from the 95-99 z24 fogs.. the 00-05 fog switches are BCM controlled i believe

I've seen numerous times over some schematics recently that the orange wire is probably a DRL/High-beam light indicator to only allow the fog lights to come on when the high beams are off. (my guess) The purple wire would be the power wire to the fog lights and the black to ground. The '03-'05's probably have a stock relay for the Hi/Fogs to make everything work easier. Relays work wonders! But there are always ways around things

Jus buy the 40amp relay fog kit from Orielys..like 13 bucks..
I was looking at the switch today and ended up just removing the switch from the panel and using my own switch. I was able to get a switch that fits perfect in the spot, and it has an illumination indicator. It looks great and I was able to wire it with no relay. Thanks for all the help

I have an extra stock fog light switch in my car somewhere, ill tak a look for it next time i go out to the car but if ya want it its yours..
just pm where to send it.. its small and light so shipping would only be 2-3 dollers, which im not worried about.
speaking of parts, does anyone have an extra fog light plug? that actually plugs into the rocker switch? If so i'd love to buy it off of you!
hehe if not i can make my way to a junk yard to scrounge one out.

I have the entire, momentary fog light switch from the old one. I replaced the whole switch with my own. I have the momentary switch and the plug that plugs in to it, but its from a newer Cavalier, 03-05. It has the orange, purple, and black wires if thats what your looking for.

I've heard there are differences from a '00-'02 and '03-'05 ? I've not actually seen a fog/dimmer switch in a '03-'05. The one i have is like the one i had in my '00 Z24, with the rocker switch that illuminates. If they will work together, I'll gladly work something out with you for it. That wouldn't be a problem at all!

Yeah I didnt know there was a difference in the switchs from the 00-02 and 03-05. I got the switch from a junkyard, but it does not light up, and it was momentary. The car was pretty stripped down, in fact the tail lights were what led me to believe it was an 03-05 cause of the filler piece across the trunk lid. I noticed some other thigns bout the car, steering wheel, rear inner wheel wells, ecotec, but the tails did it for me. I'll try and get a pick of the switch if you want and email it to you.

Sure that woudl be great! Thanks Vinny!

So if I replace my 04 with a 95-99 z24 can I run fogs with high beams?
^^ Nvm common sense wasn't working there lol

I would love to take you up on your offer. I saw that someone bought them off the internet for like $3.50, but what I'm finding is way different.
