Cut down shifter

I've read the FAQ, know that you can just saw it off.

But I'm talking about an automatic. Has anyone cut down the stock shifter for an automatic transmission? What had to be done? How would one remove the inner button lever?

You have to cut the outer metal shaft down and notch it in the appropriate places (same as the stock ones) and the inner shaft has to be cut down the same amount as the outer shaft was cut.

Use a pipe cutter so you only cut the outside and not the plastic that is sticking up in the center. Then do as ThSunDownFire said and make it look identical to the way it was stock. Measure measure measure.

And dont screw it up or your shifter will be floppy and semi-useless.

You also need to make sure at the new height that you want that you can shift into all the positions without hitting the center console at all. Would suck to find out that you cant put the car in all the gears if you ever needed to.

Haha yeah my first thought was I will need to find which gear it sits lowest in, then measure from there...
