headlight switch

hey all.my headlight switch is on its way out and obviously i need a new one..so my questions are as follow:
is there a way to get the lower column cover off without removing the wheel(i have tilt)?
since my car is a 95 and OBD1 do i need another OBD1 switch or will a later one work?
thanks.

no you dont have to pull the wheel off, has the column cover is a two piece design.
there are 3 10mm bolts under the lower cover. the top cover just pops right off. and i highly doubt your computer has anything to do with a simplified swtich.

Go to wreckers, get multi-function switch. Remove lower cover by removing the 3 bolts. Remove the 2 (maybe 3) bolts holding the switch to the column....put new one in...enjoy lights

i know there's 2 halves to the cover..removing the lower half is hindered by the ignition and tilt lever though.if the ignition didn't have those little nubs on it then it would slide off easily..i don't want to break the cover by bending it so i was wondering if there was some trick to it or what..thanks.

we both just told you.. THERE ARE THREE BOLTS ON THE LOWER HALF., after removing the tilt lever the bottom will fall off

yup... use your full strength. or take a nice thick rag and clamp down on the lever with some vise-grips with the rag to protect the levers finnish. unless you dont care about it.

Dunno on that one. When your removing the switch, you may wanna disconnect the battery. when I did mine, the horn was honking quite a bit. Just a heads up.
