Yellow interior paint
Monday, March 22, 2010 6:40 PM
After the weather warms up I am planning to paint some of my dash pieces to match the yellow of my car. Could someone please tell me an interior paint that would be a good match to the factory yellow? Thanks!

Just get the factory yellow color in regular paint (preferably actual auto body paint, but if you're good enough, you can do a decent job with a rattle can). Do the right prep work (sanding, cleaning), and use a good primer, and it will come out better than using a special paint. There is a sticky with the info on doing this. Take the time to read it, if you haven't already.

On a side note, chose your parts to paint wisely. IMO, it's tacky and ricey as hell to paint a few small removeable parts. Painting the dash face and the top half of the center console body color isn't bad, or painting the lower half of the dash and the bottom of the doors isn't bad, but if you go and paint the vents, door handle trim, defrost vent, etc., it just looks cheesy.

ok thanks I was planning on doing the dash face and some of those little easy parts. I don't have a spray gun of any kind so can the factory paint come in a rattle can? thanks for the help

Many auto body supply shops have the ability to mix you a batch by the color code in a can, and it's a better quality paint than the regular rattle cans you get everywhere. I believe you can even get the base/clear stuff that way.

yea go to autozone or any local auto parts store and ask them about duplicolor paint, and yes they can mix up your exact color according to the color code and they'll put it in a spray can for you.
