Climate control lights burned out, how to fix.
Monday, March 22, 2010 11:14 AM
I am not looking to upgrade to LED bulbs, but all the bulbs in my climate control are out and I don't want to use a flashlight to see it at night. Does anyone know what type of bulbs are used and how hard it is to change them out? I searched and found nothing. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2002 Cavalier with A/C if that helps.

IT should only be two bulbs behind the HVAC face and I believe they are #194 bulbs or #74 LED.

Think there smaller then 194's. There a really small bulb. To change them you'll have to break them and pull them out from the filliment. Overall, not hard to do.

I know there are two bulbs, the left one has been burned out for about two years and the right one went bad as soon as I reassembled the dashboard after installing my Alpine EX-10. Thanks for the insight, I will get to it as soon as I have some daylight to get it all done. Hopefully it all works out and I won't have to use the flashlight anymore!

You should be able to either call a chevy dealership or an autoparts place and ask them. They might have the bulb # listed. I know I saw it in the main thread on how to put in the leds though.

The bulbs are #74. They are very thin, and kind of a bitch to get out without breaking them (they are set into the panel kind of deep, and it's hard to hold onto the top of them and pull. I would upgrade to LEDs just because they will most likely outlast the car, so you'll never have to change them again. You just pull the dash face off, then pull out the HVAC panel. You'll see where they are once you get a good look at it.

If not, I have a whole HVAC assembly for sale...or I could part with just the bulbs lol

Can someone point me in the direction of the LED bulbs? My lights both blew at the same time a few months ago. Really annoying!

The incandescent bulbs are #74, and they were not that bad of a fix. It's just a waste of time and energy to have to tear the whole stinking dashboard out of the car just to change out two light bulbs. The bulbs came out easy. I used a small pair of needle nosed pliers covered with a paper towel and just pulled them straight out, both came out intact. I got the bulbs (incandescent) at Advanced Auto Parts for $4.00 and they don't carry any LEDs that will fit.

well I got the first bulb replaced but the 2nd one shattered and I've ripped out the filaments so I have nothing to grab one to. The socket also came off the wires as I was pulling on the filaments. Fail. Anyone know where I can get a #74 bulb socket?

Thank god for Autolumination.com

Nobody carries those sockets with a pigtail. Can't even order them. So if figured I'd buy some LED's so I don't have to go through this again and lo a behold I find they have the exact connector I need. Nice!!! 2 sockets and 2 red LED's on the way
