Center console help.
Thursday, February 18, 2010 8:37 AM
Wanting to upgrade my center console so I can have the dual front cup holders. Now I got a 99 2 dr fire auto, so is there a 00+ fire center console that will swap in without changing all the plastic pieces around the gear shift? My car doesn't have power windows so. Thanks for your time.

You want 2 cup holders, you need to change the whole center console. You can get the 00+ ones with the cup in the middle instead of the PW switch.

I have '02 sunfire with two cup holders just infront of my hvac controls, they aren't where the pw switch would be, not that it would matter anyway.

I know I have to change the full console. I am talking about where mine has the factory leather or cloth whatever it is around my shifter, will there be a 00+ console that will work with this.

No, that part won't work with a '00+ console. You should get a '00+ console from a car with manual transmission like I did...

The manual console and shiift boot wouldn't need any modification to fit and it would look really clean and factory which I know you like .

Just a thought...

Thanks again J TO ENVY, knew you would chime in and save the day. Yeah that looked awsome in yours. Worst part is finding a 00+ around with a stick scrapped. I came across a shift nob like that one the other day off of a 97 but was in bad shape. Worn on the top REALLY bad and had cut marks in it like as if the guy never put the car in neutral or some other gear to get the CD player out. If you kow what I am talking about.

For some reason, I can't seem to find the part number for the '00+ leather wrapped automatic shift knob on GM Parts Direct . I'm assuming since you have a 2.2 that yours wouldn't have the ETS button on it though which means you'll need a '00+ shift knob. I know there are other Pontiac/GM cars that share the same shift knob. I checked out eBay and there are a few that look like they would work and are in good condition:

Grand Prix leather wrapped shift knob #1

Grand Prix leather wrapped shift knob #2

Grand Prix leather wrapped shift knob #3

Check out Car-Part.com and maybe that will help you find what you need. I hope you can gather all the parts you need for this swap because it would definitely look really nice in your 'fire . Good luck and keep me updated!

Summer comes now i'll get some new pics up when I take her outta storage. But i'll take pics after I get my GT rear painted and a bit of custom work on it. Oh yeah the 97 2.2 that had the leather shift knob didn't have the ets button, thought that was weird. Was a red 97 with a 2.2, moonroof and just power locks. Weird options for that car I thought. Later .

Sounds like it had the Sport Interior Package. It was an option on the older Sunfires. Did it have the Patina/Redondo cloth seats with the lumbar adjuster on the driver's seat and seatback pocket on the passenger seat? And I'm assuming leather wrapped steering wheel and e-brake handle in addition to the shift knob?

Correct me if I am wrong, 4 door console won't bolt in a 2 door right?.? Tried the search button but I can never get any help there. Reason for asking is cause I found a 00+ 4 door standard console, but wasn't gunna take it out if it won't work.
