to take out the radio, i know the surround has to come off (around cluster & radio/heat), but i cant figure out how it comes off. any tips?
Sure but since I have no idea what year your talking about this is what you do for the newer years.
Open both doors, take off both side panels on covering the fuse box one on the other side. Remove any screws that will hold down the dash pad. Remove the defrost vent and two scres in there. Open glove box and remove the screws along the top that hold down the dash pad. No look for a small slit that you could finger. Inside you will see two copper colored screws holding the dash pad to the airbag support, remove those. Now take off the dash pad. Now you can take off your dash bezel by removing the remaing screws along the top and pull it off. Now you can get to your radio.

where is this slit exactly?
and so youre saying that the whole top part or pad has to come off in order to remove the bezel?
Yes the whole top has to come off. If you are looking at the opened glove box the slit (more squared) is located at the middle-top left side. You look through there and you will see two copperish gold screws.
if you need a pic, i could take a quick one in a little bit and post it up for a better idea of what you are looking for.
