Maybe you guys can help me out!!! I'm new to the site. My 2001 cavalier with over 294,000 miles on it has developed a major problem. When i go to turn on the rear defroster, I hear a strange noise through the speakers, my headlights dim, all of the warnings lights come on, the blower speeds bogs down, all the gauges stop working, the odometer goes out, and the radio shuts off. What's even more strange is that it come and goes. I'm thinking a dead short, a weak alternator, or possibly something is going wrong with the BCM because pretty much everything runs through it. Has anybody had something like this happen to them before? Ideas?? Thanks PS car runs fine while this happens
Check your grounds and the connections on the rear defroster. You'll see the connections on the left and right side of the rear windshield. Make sure that they're not touching anything metal of grounding out.
Make sure that you've got clean battery connections and also a good time to do a grounding setup for your car.
Good luck.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
I finally found it guys! The ground cable that bolts to the battery tray had completely rotted off. I didn't noticed it until I was looking at a friend's cavalier. Bought a new one from the dealership and we're back in action!!! Thanks again Misnblu!
