Random Question... can I take a steering wheel from the 03 and newer cavalier and swap it onto a 96?
NO the two shafts are not the same ... However you can change the hole shaft / column from the rack up... My 2001 cavy did not come with a tilt wheel but after a trip to the junkyard and 50 bucks it now has a tilt wheel..
Yeah the shafts are different so you have to change the whole column if you want to use the 03+ wheel.
Would it matter since my car is pre 2000 + I know on some parts that matters
if your putting a 03-05 wheel on anything other than a 03-05 than yes, you have to swap columns.

oops sorry a cobalt steering wheel on an 03 cav
the wheel itself may work but i somehow doubt it. gm completely redesigned the cobalt from the ground up. if anything interchanges id be very surprised.
maybe some bolts?
