So i got the needles out and all the bulbs de-soldered. im guessing the old bulbs are 12 volts, and that im going to need resistor(s) for the leds. but the real question i need answered is about the circuit board and what side is positive and which is negative. I just moved into my new place and cant find my volt meter. Any help would be great. Thanks!

whoa wait a minute.... I thought you couldnt remove needles on 2000+.... they break if you try to pull on em, or am i wrong?
^^ It can be done, but it's very hard to do without screwing things up.
Will also be attempting this soon and I've had needles of these clusters before and it's not that's bad

Been down that road you are headed 5 years ago. It was a gigantic waste of time. Sure we got the LEDS working and it looking OK but some spots were brighter than others and so we added more LEDS. All in all it was a giant waste. Just spend the money for a black cat customs one. Trust me it is well worth it! Since I am parting out my car I am actually selling mine if you are interested.

Well i got all the LEDs in and yes some spots are brighter than others. Also the tach no longer works. But a few weeks ago i bought a 2k+ sunfire cluster that i can use instead.
Facing the cluster, each LED went from top-bottom. The top was negative, and the bottom was positive if I remember correctly. I did this a few months ago, turned out great. The only bright spot I have is over my gas gauge, when I have a full tank. The needle really lights up blue then, other then that, its pretty uniform.
i attempted this with my old cluster a year or two ago, like wade said... huge waste of time. not worth it at all.
i ended up getting a new stock cluster and called it good since then
