Peel the rubber coating off yours, clean with rubing alcohol to get rid of residue, send me the $15 you just saved from buying them off of E-bay, Done.

Mine are the nicest of all of them

My old ones:

Smooth as a babys bottom

And with the lights on...

My new ones are even better

How they started...

And in their current beauty

Thanks for the comments.

If you are wanting to do them like I did,
painted but smooth.

I believe... it was the 2000-2002 Hvac knobs that only had one hole in the top, and the edges weren't as brittle,
but dont quote me on that.

Then, if you want them to look like mine,
fill in the grooves on the side with JBWeld,
as well as any other holes,
and get ready for ALOT of finnicky sanding,
priming etc ETC

Took me forever to finally be happy with them,
but now that they are done, I love em.

hahah nope,
I just wanted to have gunmetal HVAC knobs, and after messing around with all the other ideas,
I liked this result best cause of its smoothness.

If you want to paint it and have light come through.

I'd say go to a JY, while in the JY, get one hvac knob from each body style (95-99, 00-02, 03-05) peel off the rubber, and see if it has brittle edges, or smooth and stronger ones. I believe it was the 00-02 that were the good ones, but i dont know for sure.
If you find the year that has only one whole on top, and the stronger edges, get three from that year, wetsand it to make it smoother.
And than paint it with the metalcast or some other paint like that, which allows the light through.

My first clear set, I had, I sanded, and messed around with alot til i got them to my liking, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist at times

Random useless fact! The other day I pulled the hvac knobs out of my '00 grand am, and they are clear red pastic underneath. Not sure if they might swap over (didn't bother to try), but either way, I thought it was weird that they were coloured.
