Has anyone had good luck tearing apart the door panels and covering them in vinyl? I only want to do the cloth part of the door panel but want to know if anyones had good luck doing it?

lots of people have done various types of materials
have you searched the .org?
Its a fairly easy process take off your door panel and then you can see the tabs and the "screw washers" (thats what i'm gonna call them)
and pull of the weather stripping for you window (it hold part of the cloth underneath to give a finished appearance) you only have to take off part of it then you rip off the old fabric and put your new batting (upholstery fluff/foam) then place your new material over
put your piece back in the panel and staple your weather stripping piece back on and viola! re-upholstered door panel
lol

On my 03 there was "plastic weld" type stuff holding it on. I just went and got 95-99 door panels. The inserts pop right out and no one can tell the difference. I also did my in suede and painted a couple pieces in an accent gunmetal.

i dont have them on anymore i replaced the door after an accident and gave them to my friend, you need to sand the @!#$ out of them tho otherwise its not smooth at all

Cavy owner here, so I'm not sure about sunfires. Guessing they started plastic welding them on in the later models. If that is the case, take the door panel off, you will have to seperate the part you want to cover, rotozip or some other way. Get some contact cement to attatch the fabric to the part (I'd recommend testing it on the fabric and a piece of wood or something to make sure the cement doesn't make it look like hell). After that is all dry, re-attatch with some liquid nails. You don't want to paint unless you know what you're doing. Sanding is a huge pain, and as Shawn said, if you don't do it right it doesn't come out smooth at all. If you do decide to go that way, you should use automotive primer/paint, or it's probably going to look cheap.

I got the older 96 style door panels separated the plastic welds added some padding and went to town.
