Cleaning Stock Sunfire Seats
Wednesday, September 09, 2009 10:16 AM
My wife's backseat is filthy from some plants we bought a few weeks ago that leaked dirty water all over the back. I want to take the rear seat cover off and wash it in the washing machine. I know the cover is tightened with a string and then glued to the seat foam, but can I peel it off, wash it, and then use some spray adhesive to put it back on? Or will that ruin the seat? Anyone done this before?

Sorry to double post but no one was responding in the maintenance forum so I thought I might get more luck here.

Best thing is getting a pint of laquer thinner and putting it in a gallon of water...seriously ur ok doing this it wont do nething but clean ur fabric. Being that you have diluted it it wont dry it out either.

Dont be a smarta$$...although it is better than being a dumba$$

^^^ That sounds stupid to be honest.

Ya, I wouldn't pull the cover off if I were you.
I'd start with some upholstery cleaner. Maybe a handheld rug shampooer might work too. If that doesn't work you can try maybe an actual detail shop.
If it was me thought and it bothered me that much and the upholstery cleaner didn't work I'd just buy a new one from the junkyard, lol.

might sound stupid to you but I've been in the body business for a number of years and have cleaned seats with diluted thinner for years and have never had any problems. Nor have I had any good luck with apholstry cleaner either but hey what do I know I've only been doing this since I was 15

I guess it could work. I personally wouldn't do it but to each their own.

Last Christmas, one of the gifts my g/f got me was the Bissel Little Green steam machine. Man, this thing has been killer in terms of cleaning the cars, couch, pet accidents, etc.

I think they go for about $80.00; it's a great investment and easy to use.

I used a big Bissel steam cleaner, the same one you'd use for your carpets inside your house. There was rust on my carpet from a driveshaft i left in the back of my blazer and th steam cleaner took all the stains out no problem and it even looked better tha before because it cleaned it so good.
