Ok I know I'm going to ragged on for asking these questions But I want to put a 2000+ cluster
in my 98 cavalier I have no tach but have the dig odo trip and have sending unit from 2001 with new pump
came from buddy. What things do I need to do so I can do this swap? And yes I have looked at almost all
posts about swaps from 95-99 cav's and sunfire's and swaps from cav to sunfire. There is not much info
on the swap I want any help would be great if it can't be done then I will be making custom dash with gauges I want

You need to completely re-wire the car as a 2000+. 2000+ clusters need to communicate with the BCM which is only in 2000+ Js.

just get a 98-99 z24 cluster with tach and as long as it has a digi odom you can use it thats what i did in my 99.
follow this procedure:
Seriously, this is the way to get around it, the theftlock must be reprogrammed, and this is how:
1. Start the car and let it die. The theftlock light will be on, DO NOT TURN THE KEY OFF, OR OPEN ANY DOORS, OR TURN ON ANY ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. Just fold your hands under your arms and wait 10-15 minutes...
2. After the car stalls, the theftlock light will blink. wait until it stops blinking.
3. Wait 1 minute after it stops blinking.
4. Turn the key to off, wait 10 seconds, then start the car again.
You may have to do this 3 times for it to work correctly.
I know the theft lock procedure I had to do it twice in my 98 old's when I changed the ign switch

to look better to me then the old stuff. So I can run a 99 cluster with a tach can it be from a 5 speed as mine is auto?

not sure on that i just bought mines with the PRND321 on it and did the procedure and works great. the 4spd cluster works with a 3 and 4spd trans.

Yes, you just won't have the gear indicator below the speedo
thanx for the info went to junkyard today they have 5 z24's up there found a cluster with tach from 99 5 speed goind to install after work tomarrow

Sorry to bring my post back again but one of the clusters I got broke so I used a cluster with tach from a 97 with the mech odo (mine is dig) plugged in and did relearn the mech odo still reads just as it should it's no different
