Ok, I have a dash from my old 1997 cavalier and just bought a 2000 sunfire and the dash to me is ugly in it and I had alot of work into the cavalier dash, I searched and saw a thread for a sunfire dash swap into a cavi but nothing on a cavi dash into a sunfire. I was wondering if this was posable? I want to keep the sunfire door panels and center console but swap the rest. My biggest concern is, will it bolt right in and fit, and will I need the metal frame to be changed as well? Thanks.

Yes it's possible. You'll have to have everything for the Cavalier dash including the whole dash structure, and the metal frame underneath that it bolts to. You'll also have to use the Cavalier door panels, but you can keep the center console that is in it now. The only problem I see is that the 95-99 Cavaliers used a different shape cluster/different mounting points so the Sunfire cluster won't fit right in.
dont forget to grap the center console framing also.. and ditto to the door frames not being able to be used.
you need:
the lower dash itself.
the dash frame.
both panels on the side of the dash
the vent tubes.
door panels.
and front dash panel
What are you doing with the sunfire dash?
Ok, swapped the frames today, and test fitted the front peice with the sunfire door panels..really hoping it would fit as I love my sunfire door panels and hate the cavi ones...doesnt work at all. Other than that I am happy though...I am thinking about glassing my door panels and relocating the power lock switches so I dont have to worry about a spot in the door panels for those..

And to Steven Mercado... I am selling the sunfire dash. It is in excellent condition, just do not like the look of it.

Have you looked at the mounting points for the cluster?
The main issue I see is the 00+ clusters are digital. I dont think you can even wire them up into a pre 99' J without some electrical work.
When I did my Sunfire dash swap in my Cavalier, I had to splice the sunfire cluster into the cavalier cluster harness.
I couldn't get the Cavalier cluster to fit in the sunfire dash without destroying it.

I solved the mounting problem using some metal brakets. The gauges I used the 2000 gauges that were in the sunfire, and used the cavalier dash and the sunfire center console. The only thing I need to do to the dash to get the sunfire gauges to fit is take some fiberglass or something and build up at the bottom as there is like a 1/4" gap where the dash peice does come up high enough. Other than that it fits good.
