fuel gauge problem
Wednesday, April 01, 2009 1:00 PM
I did a search but didn't find what I was looking for.

What happened was the other day I noticed that the fuel level gauge wasn't going back to the bottom when I stopped the car. So I was like okay maybe the little needle just got messed up. So I pulled the cluster and manually pulled the needle down. Then started the car and it read it fine. Problem is that when I stop the car again it might work good for a few times then it will stay about half way mark. Then next time it will stay even higher. Do you guys think this is a problem with the cluster or the sending unit? It works good if I reset it each time at 0, but like I said after a few starts it will start acting up. It never returns itself to zero after it stays higher when I turn the car off, all it does is it just gets higher and higher. Any input if greatly appreciated. Thanks

ok well seems like nobody has experienced this before. So I guess my next question is can I replace the gauge cluster and will the new gauge cluster show my mileage or the other vehicles mileage?

it will show your milage..

should it happen again remeber to not move the needle by hand..thats not gonna do anything but break it or cause more problems..

It will show YOUR mileage when you replace the cluster because the mileage is stored in the BCM. And no I haven't experienced the same problem with the fuel gauge.

Had the same problem fuel gauge not working it would stick. Cluster needs to be replaced. BCM stores your mileage not the cluster. Bought a new one on Ebay for 34.95 from crookedwillie. Installed it myself in aboit 30 minutes. Very simple plug and play.
