Ok, I searched around a bit for this but couldn't find anything specific.
My car has power windows and locks, but a few months ago I hit a deer and need a new passenger side door. I have looked around the junkyards for a silver door but can't find any with power windows. But, have found a couple that are manual. Everything in my current door still works, so how much work is it to move the window motor and lock stuff to the non-powered door?
Is it worth doing to save myself the money on painting?
Thanks!
it should be pretty easy.......
not difficult.
Should be able to find instructions on jbo.
it's the usual bolt/unbolt, connect wires, etc.
The window regulators are riveted in. Drilling them out isn't fun, but can be done. You'll have to remove the armrest bracket (also riveted in) to get to the last rivet on the regulator. (So, pick up some extra rivets.) And since you're swapping regulators, you'll should check the normal window glass adjustments when you get the electric one in the new door. Not sure about the lock solinoids, but they might be riveted in too. You'll need to swap over the harnesses and rubber bellows too. If you're using the original door panel, you should be good to go.
Sweet, I figured it could be done. Doesn't sound to hard.
I knew I would have to switch over the wiring and stuff, just wasn't sure how hard the window motor and door lock stuff would be. Do I need to swap out the whole window and frame or can I just add the motor to the manual window frame?
I am going to pick the door up and put it on friday, probably wait till it gets warmer out to swap that stuff.
Thanks for the help!
Swapping out everything will be your best bet.
I gutted the doors on the '97 for paint and replaced both window motors. Fun! Basically just pull the glass, 2 10mm nuts=monkey work, then start drilling rivets!
Awesome, I can finally get this thing put back together and looking nice again.
I have also picked up some LS Sport sides to replace the Z sides, so should be pretty good when its back together!
Did you ever do this. (i know dead thread) I want to put power windows in my 4 door. figure stock would be the best bet

if your goign to do it your easiest option would be to just swap all four doors and pull the wireing from another car.. it would save you so much more time then pulling apart 8 doors, removing and replacing all the hardware and then putting doors back together..
find a stock sedan with power already and just get the doors and all the wires.. then to make back some of your money sell the stock doors you just pulled from your car..
it wont be hard to wire everything up as long as you keep the collors coded, when I went to put in a stock power window switch into my car I had found the guy I had bought the car off of clipped the color wires at the doors and just ran single color wire.. so i didnt know what controlled which option.. blew up two switches trying to figure out the wiring in the consol..lol.

while i would agree with you on this one. I have been trying to sell a pair of doors for a two door. and a pair of doors of a 4 door for months now lol. I need to dig into it a bit further. new it is around $150 a door (from a parts store) need to do some more digging though and well hit up a junk yard

Bringing this up again.
Is it possible to use an aftermarked power window and door lock kit instead of buying oem doors ? And what kits would work if anyone has seen them ?
