17" rims, good brand?
Sunday, July 26, 2009 11:03 AM
ok, so im tired of riding on stock plastic hubcaps lol. so im ordering these 17" rims. they are made by Volante, and im wondering if they are a good brand? im probably going to get them anyways but just curious as to how long they are going to last. here is a pic of them. they are like 125 a rim and they come with the cheap strata zeno tires lol, total cost for shippin and everything is 830.00, so i figured they arent that exspensive so might as well.My cavalier is the stock bright red. but ya here is a pic.

Never heard of them, if i was you i would go with Motegi(traklite), Enkie, Centerline(storm), falken, Rota Racing etc....they might cost a little more than these rims your looking at, but are worth it imo.

I don't know about the rims, but I've never heard of those tires, and for $45 for a set of 17's, I'd be surprized if they give you a decent ride or grip, and if they last very long.

i know they are cheap and probably are crappy lol. im gettin them because they come with the rims, and makes it have free shipping. its actually saving me money getting tires. so if anything i can just change them later.

well i bought them, there on, and i think they look pretty damn good. only downside is they are 2 inches smaller in diameter then the stock ones. so my speedometer is off by 9%. and everyone going to the get together in dixion AUGUST 30th, you will get to see them before anyone else O.O lol. pics will be posted after the meet in dixion.

What the hell size tire did you put on that they are that small?

Re: 17" rims, good brand?
Tuesday, August 18, 2009 6:14 PM
205/40[or 45 i dont remember]/17. they fit nice, they look sharp too. they are low profile tires too. i should of bought the 18 inch ones, if i would of done that the speedometer would only be like .5% off. but its ok. im thinkin about buyin tein ss springs that drop it 2 inches, i know it wont fix the speedometer, but it will make the gap look a lot smaller.

I like the look of those wheels, but you need 225/45/17 tires and a drop.

Re: 17" rims, good brand?
Wednesday, August 19, 2009 4:40 PM
Yeah, 205/40 is way too small. 215/45 is the smallest you should run, but as Shadowfire said, 225/45 is ideal.

well i didnt have a choice really. i got those because it was a package deal and came with free shippin, which saved me 150 bucks, plus gave me tires with it so i said o well lol. and im thinkin about buyin tein ss springs, which drop it 2 inches or close to. but idk yet, im savin for AAS body kit.and if i have a body kit, chances are that with 2 inch lowerin springs on the kit will bottom out, which means i waisted money on springs over the period of time.

^how bout a clean looking kit and a drop, no need for gawdy fiberglass bumpers'n'skirts. i like the look of those rims, you really need different tires eventually, i run 215/50s on my 16in gm ls chrome. a 225/45 would do great on those rims. id for sure consider those with a orange stripe instead of red for my 03 LSS

well i know all this stuff. i know what i need, just matter of money. im only 16, and parents make me put paychecks in bank[half of it]. and i only worked during summer so far and need to find a job. plus i dont really see a "need" for buying new tires when these ones are brand new pretty much, i know there junk but im not really lookin for performance from them.

Actually, you did. You could have done it right, even if it meant spending a little extra. If you searched around, or even called the company you bought them from and negotiated with them, I'm sure you could have got a package deal similar to that with the correct tire size. Especially in this economy, companies are willing to negotiate to make a sale.

A few years back, I was looking at rims for my old Cav, and I called a company that had a package deal for 17x7's with 215/40's. I told the guy I wanted 215/45's, and while his first response was "that's not the package deal", he took some time and came up with a package that was only about $40 more with the correct size. You even mentioned that you should've bought the 18's, so clearly you were considering other options. Whatever your mod is on your car, spend the money to do things right the first time. If you have to save for an extra few weeks, so what? It's worth it in the end. Don't be in such a rush to get the next thing that you cut corners. Your car will get to where you want it eventually, and you will be far happier with it when it's done right, and you aren't wishing you made a different choice.
