I have a 2002 Cavalier and stock LS Sport Coupe 16's. I bought some Sumitomo HTR+ in a 225/50ZR16. They look alot wider than the 205/55/16...
have not installed them yet.
Will they rub the inner struts in bumps or turns??
thanks in advance.
on Sumitomo website, says they are 8.5 tread width, 205's are 7.2".
U should be fine I'm on 225's in an 18 inch rim dropped about two inches and I don't rub
^ same here 225/40/R18's dropped on sportlines, no problems here.
The problem isnt he width... 225 is as wide as you can go without rubbing, but if u are mounting those on stock rims, you sure they will mount?
not sure if they will mount or not, they sure look too wide as they sit.
225/40/r18's here w/ a 8" rim. dropped. and no rubbing here!

Damn... now that's wide lawl.
Anyone else see a little less breaking with stock breaks and no rear rotor swapps? I think i may see a little (with 225/45/zr17s) but it MAY be my imagination....
Im about to run a 235 45 17...
I Also run 235/45/zr17.
No rubbage.
before I ran 235/40zr18 on super low suspension
no rubbing either unless I hardcore corner it, which rubs the fender a bit.

all of you fail. he asked about stock rims, not aftermarket rims w/ different offsets and sizes.
to answer your question, yes you can mount them (225s) on your stock ls chromes. and yes they are wider than your 205s. that's where the 225 comes into play.

They will fit fine. My previous two sets of tires have been 225/50 on the stock chromes. And I'm on RoadMagnets, which are pretty low, and I don't rub ever.
Im running 225/50R/16 on my gt rims and they fit very nice
The pictures dont do it justice but it looks very nice
full lock to full lock, no rubbing (atleast on stock suspension)
had a blown ecotec swapped 2000 cavy, now just an 02 Grand Am, and a 74 BMW 2002...
225/45/17 on SRT rims.
Zero rub, even on full lock, plenty of room still at that.
