Hey guys, I managed to hunt down a set of beautiful condition SRT 4 rims wrapped in 215/40/17 rubber for $300 CDN.
I looked at the sticky and searched, but did not find much to help me out.
How accurate for the speedo and smooth of a ride is the 215/40/17? My stock size is 195/70/14.
I'm guessing it would be the same as the 225/40/17, which is a -1.7 mph. Correct?
The middle number in tire size is the series (height of sidewall). It's a percentage of the tire's width. A 225/40/17 tire will have a taller sidewall than a 215/40/17. I ran the numbers through the calculator on Wild Weasel's website and here's the highlights.
Your speedo with the 215/40/17 tires will read 3.9% too fast. When your speedo reads 60 mpg, you'll actually be traveling at 57.6 mpg.
It sounds like a good deal on the wheels. If the tires are in good condition, just buy the wheels, get the proper-sized tire (215/45/17 or 225/45/17) and ebay the dismounted tires.
Some people prefer a smaller tire than stock. It gears the car to increase low-end acceleration. One side effect of this, however, is you'll run at higher RPM at highway speeds, thus lowering your top speed (speed limiter hits at 108, you're actually traveling 103.8) and hurting fuel economy.

Haha right.
Forgot that little tidbit.
It's exam week, I've been having mind@!#$ all the time haha.
Thanks for the advice, I'll be taking a look at them today so I'll see how they ride,
and I'll be sure to snap some pictures for the jbo.
Oh yeah heres a picture of the rims
Dirty as eff
you would be best off running 215/45/17s. rims look pretty good though!
the tires are too skinny, it'd look dumb IMO, wait to get the right size tires

I wish I could travel at 57.6mpg...
Lol,
Well I picked em up
and here's what they look like.
I don't like the tires very much, but that doesn't matter because they are balding anyways.
I have a set of all-seasons that I barely even used on my steelies, so I'll sell those, and use the funds to pick up some used kumhos off kijiji.
Oh yeah.
Don't mind the 4x4 stance.
It's starting to get warm, maybe I'll get eibach's this season hahaha
I've always liked those rims, and how they J. I'm jealous.
Put a nice couple of coats of wax on and they will clean up so easily when dirty!
Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.
yeah man,
I'm pretty stoked on em.
they're dirty as hell though, I gotta get alot of elbow grease to clean those puppies off.
then I will wax the hell out of em haha
Yeah, take them off. Spray them down with some simple green, let it sit and spray them again. Scrub away and rinse. thats what I did with my OEM and then put 3 coats of wax on. Wheels clean so nice.

just drop it, will look fine, i ran same size tires for over a year. just made the rims look bigger, drop it on sportlines and the wheel gap will be small enough not to really worry
The SRT-4 wheel are 17x6 and work best with 205/50R17, which is stock for the SRT and would be only 1.34% larger than stock in your case. So as you go 60 mph on your speedo, you're actually doing 59.2 mph. Anything wider than 205 would be better on a 7 inch or wider wheel in my opinion.

Killer, that's the information I need to hear.
Thanks Shawn
Quiklilcav wrote:Actually, you can put a 225/45 on a 17x6 without a problem. I have them on my Monte Carlo rims (17x6) and the sidewall is still sitting almost perfectly straight.
Would it be possible if you can get a pic of that setup?

hey guys,
I have been looking for tires for quite some time now,
and although 205/50/17 was my primary choice,
I found a set of 225/45/17 for cheap.
My question is,
what is the main cons of fitting a 225 width tire on a 6 inch rim?
Will it effect handling by any means, or is it just cosmetic?
it will give you a slight bit better handling wise with a wider tire. wider tire=more tire on the road=better control

That may be obvious, but is those benefits hampered by being on a six inch wide rim instead of a seven inch wide.

Quiklilcav wrote:See if you can find the specs on the manufacturer's website for that exact tire and size. They will list a range of rim widths. If your rims are lower than the minimum, you'll probably have too much bulge, causing uneven wear, as well as not handling as well, because you're actually losing contact area.
According to 1010tires.com a 205/50R17 fits a 5.5 to 7.5 inch wide rim while a 225/45R17 fit a 7 to 8.5 inch rim.

I never knew the srt rims were so narrow.

News update!
I got myself a set of Falken azenis tires, size 225/45/17
and they work perfectly.
super sticky, and the boys at kal tire measured the SRT rim to be closer to 7 inches, rather than 6.
Regardless, I have myself a set of new tires and pics will be coming today or tomorrow!
