looking to change brands.....for my next set of tires
Wednesday, March 18, 2009 8:43 AM
ok ive been running the same brand of tires for a longgggg time and i think its time for a change. im currently running the BFG g-force sport tires and thou i love them and have been running them on alot of my many Js through the years its time to switch it up some.....

what im looking for is a good Z rated tire for track/street use. here in FL we do not have to worry bout snow and it rains here and there so i guess more of a spring/summer setup. the wheels im running are the 5Zigen and they are 17s

so any suggestions based on what you have

thanks

RIP JESSE GERARD.....Youll always be in my thoughts and prayers...

look into the Azenis, they hook like a mofo but do wear a bit quicker and arent as loud as my BFG G FORCE KDW's

Some of the higher end Bridgestone Potenzas (hop on tirerack.com and look your size) in their "max performance summer" look like they would be a good compromise between dry/wet stickyness. $$ though. (Not sure if Firestone Wide Ovals come in 17")

I had a set of "High Performance All Season" potenzas (G 009, replaced by G 019) and was very pleased with their overall performance. They were also nearly silent. Nice all-around tire. The sidewalls were a little soft for a dedicated track car, but if you're only doing track-type driving a couple of times a season they would be just fine.

BFG KDW's are loud, but have good traction properties in wet or dry (my current rubber on 5zigen 17s, 225/45/17).

Azenis Sport from Falken have great dry traction, and the newer ones (RT615s? I had the older ones) ought to do OK in the rain when new. Not so great when they are starting to get worn down though.

To be honest, very few of the "max performance summer" type of tires are going to be that great in the rain towards the end of their life, but they will at least retain really good dry performance throughout.

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.
