I cannot find the thread for the life of me which the offset was stated in that the Teins have a rubbing issue. I don't remember if it was the 35mm or high 40's.
Now that I sold my rims, I'm in the market for some ultra light 18"s.

this is the thread that you're looking for. Higher offsets, like 42-45 are more likely to rub. I have 17x7s with a 40mm offset and I've got maybe 1/4" clearance between the teins and the tire.

The rubbing concern is rubbing the spring perch not the fender. So if you have a 40mm offset the wheel sits further from the spring perch then it would with a 45mm offset. so if your offset is 42mm+ odds are you will have some rubbing issues.

the tein ss doesnt have a problem with rubbing the tires on the fenders, its the tire on the actual suspension. there were a few threads when they first came out where people have just a few mm between their tire and their suspension.
i have 17" enkei rsv's w/ 42mm offset and no rub on tein ss's.

profile also says your running the tein basics too.
I know bubba couldn't run the 17x8'" FN's I sold him on those coils while he still had both. I think it was due how wide they where. I would like to keep up on this cause I too want to run 17's or 18's and those coils.

Is this only a problem with the Tein SS or has anyone had this problem with similar coils like the Gravana/B+Gs?
This is making choosing a wheel very very tricky.....
18x7.5 ~ 42mm
18x8 ~ 35mm.
I just don't know if I want to try and run a damn 8" wide tire again because i didn't like how it stuck out of the wheel wells before. I have toyo's now, but regardless It looks dumb IMO.

Why dont you ever just ask the bubba.... You do remember I ran that setup and know the offsets very well lol.
18x8 you need 35 offset
18x7.5 you can squeak out with a 42 offset... You'll be able to clear about 3 nickels worth of space between the coils and the tires.
18x9 than you need spacers
And since your going lightweight and are hunting Fn01r's your going to most likely find only 8 width left. Get 35 offset it wont stick out that bad with the toyo fenders.
I tested it out before the car was totaled thats how I know the numbers
5Zigen are now running the "hot version" of the FNO1R-C's and biggest size in the new ones I can run is 17x8... cause their 18"s are now only available in 8.5" wide tires.
I'm looking at Rays G-Games wolf 77 1-pieces or 2 piece if I have the funds when i order.
Since i know no j-owner is running these wheels, I might just snag em in due time.
As for the there being a problem with the Tein basics, I'm not sure about anyone else, but my passenger side tire rubs on the second coil of the spring. Drivers side does not rub, but it is very close. I am on stock rims with 225 wide tires.
And as far as i know, the basics and the SS's use the same outer tube and knuckle bracket so i dont see how this wouldnt affect both setups.
