Question About Rims
Thursday, September 04, 2008 11:44 PM
I am just gathering information....

Say i was looking at a set of wheels they came in

Size: 16 x 7 I know what this means
Bolt Pattern 5 x 100 I know what this means
Offset +40 But with a +40 offset would this put the rim towards the fender or towards the strut

The car would be on coil overs if thats a factor

Also tires
i know the stock size for a 16" rim is 205/55/16 but to have a wider tire could a 215/50/16 passably a 225/50/16?

the rim would be fine. the lower the number for the offset the farther out towards the fender the wheel will sit

as for the tires size, im too lazy to look it up on a tire calculator but you can do it that way and it will tell you which tire is the closest to a 205/55/16.

The offset is the distance between the center line of the rim and the mounting face (where it meets the hub). Positive offset means the mounting face is moved toward the front of the rim (this is why it moves the wheel inward). Hope that clarifies for you.

As for the tire size, the 215/50 would be too small overall height, but the 225/50 works fine. It will fit on a 7" wide rim very nicely.

go w/ a 225 tire. cavaliers recommended offset is anywhere from 35-45. so a 40 will be perfect.
