Wondering what people are running for slicks and what size...I can get a set of 20x8x14 from a guy and am wondering if this is a good size to go with...I believe they are M/T...My 60 fts are killing me and no matter how much I play with my tire pressure it didn't get me the 60 ft I am looking for...I am in desparate need of some slicks and not sure what works well for our cars...any help would be appreciated.
Well I never seen a slick that small used on our cars, but Im sure it would help more than street tires. My recomendation is a slick in the 24.9 x 9 size. Import drag racers have used this size for years and have got 9-second passes out of them. I dont know how much money you're looking to spend, but i would contact adam hahn for a refferal to a custom wheel center. They can make a set of wheels with the right offset and backspacing for a 26x9 slick.
Many guys here in my city are using these
One of them is running 8.3 in the 1/8 mile
Cutting great 60s on them also
Check out M&H Tires
He is using the Street and Strip ones
Any size slick will help you out, contrary to what JD Soza believes. Just the grippier compound is sure to can you a few tenths in the 60ft alone. If you can't get a set of slicks get some BFG Drag Radials. That's what I used on my 12.53 run and you won't have to worry about snapping axles.

I was thinking about getting 24/8/14...is that a good size to go? I'll have to check on the BFG's...how much do they run? (estimation)...I just got my suspension and mounts on so I want to get back to the track and see if that helped...my next purchase is gonna be alky injection and get some slicks.
24.5/8.0/14.0 is the closest to the stock diameter there is. The only problem is that our rims are 6in wide and your supposed to use at least a 7in wide rim for those tires. I'm getting a set of racing wheels and those same M/Ts when I rebuild the car for 2009.
I believe I got my BFGs from TireRack for like $100 each. Mine are only the 205/xx/14s though. Get something in a 225 or 235 size if you have a rim to mount them to that'll fit your car.

I think I'll have to go to the junk yard and pick something up...I have a set of winter rims off a pontiac sunbird (the alloy rims) but I am going to be putting them on a car this winter again so I think it will be just as easy to pick up something...I think a 8" width would be around a 225 profile...My buddy is bringing me a set of slicks in the morning so I will see what size they are...if they are dencent I will run them, if not I will look into getting something...the only thing is I think they are 15" slicks and I would like to run a 14"...I'll see tommorow and then go from there
So my buddy just dropped off the tires...there look brand new, I guess they were only used once on a civic sir...they are michelin pilot sport cup 205/50/15...not sure what they are like for a drag tire...they are dot and can be driven on the road which is nice...I don't know anything about how they work right now but I'll look around and see...I got 4 of them so as long as they hook up not too bad I will probably just stick with them instead of paying for the BFG g-force T/A drag radials...I am hoping to get to the track tonight so I will see if I can get them on...if not I will just drop my tires to 25psi and see how the new suspension works.
well the tires, suspension, engine mounts, bushings only took me down 1 tenth...my 60 foots are still brutle...I can't hook up, even with the new tires I got, I may have to get a set of slicks...my best 60 ft tonight was 2.38...most of them were 2.42...there were guys there with stock acura's with slicks getting 2.0 60 fts...I will begin to pick aways at a few more things for the car for the rest of the summer...I hope I can get in the 14s sometime this season...alky injection will probably get me there alone...I found out my exhaust is still really restrictive...have a foot long piece of exhaust pipe between my cat and cat-back exhaust that is only 1 7/8" so that needs to be looked into...I guess its a make work project...but I will look into some BFG's soon
Street tires aren't gonna do you any good at the track man, no matter how good a tire they are. BFG DRs are "DOT" certified just so they can be used in DOT classes but they are a completely different compound than a regular street tire, just like every other racing tire on the market.
Just a FYI on exhausts....your exhaust is only as big as the smallest section. If you have a 3in exhaust with a 2in section....you have a 2in exhaust.
Your profile doesn't say where you are but if your near Chicago I'm not above lending out my BFGs as long as you don't trash them. They have over 200 runs on them and are just barely showing wear because I take good care of them and know how to run with them.

right now I live in PEI, Canada...I am gonna see if I can burn the Michelin tires down to make them a little more sticky...I am calling a shop on monday cause they were able to get me a price on the BFG's...I am gonna look into alky injection first and then the exhaust...I'll use the tires I have for drag racing for the time being, but I will definately be investing in some of the BFG's..I think the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires are more of a race tire not drag but they seem quite sticky, they are just a little narrow, especially since one tire is trying to deliver 200+ ft/lbs torque...need an lsd soon too...I'll keep practicing I will be in the 14's by the end of the summer if all goes as plan.
I put 300WHP through my 205 BFGs
If it's the right tire it'll hold it.

I hate Falkens PERIOD. Had too many bad sets on street cars to even touch their "race" tires.
Azenis are more for Auto-X and road racing than drag though.

so you think I should just go with the 205/50/15....or get the 225
Get the 225. I woulda gone bigger if they had bigger for the 14in wheels back then.

Thought about them....but the price put me off. For that price I could have full slicks.

yeah thats what put me off to. cept the cost of the tubes they are pretty much as much as slicks
For the size slick we would be using you don't have to use a inner tube, at least that's what MT told me.

wow if thats true that would be awesome. cuz that would make slicks alot more affordable for us or any high power fwd guys. howd those bfgs hold on your 300whp? was it open or an lsd?
Looks like you just need more seat time practicing feathering the clutch out the gate. Don't buy more parts yet.

If your making over 500WHP on a FWD car I would assume your going to put the inner tube in for safety. I know I sure as hell am. Plus it makes the PSI a lot more consistant.
The BFGs made the run you see in my sig along with every other one....and on an open diff at that time
