good idea to put wider tires in back?
Thursday, April 03, 2008 6:17 PM
am thinking 205/55R/16s in front and 225/40/16s in back. good idea or not?

desperately need to replace my front tires. i can't really afford to buy a set of 4 tires now.

is your car RWD? then why would you need wider tires in teh rear?

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

I hope you meant 225/50/16 for the tire size. How the hell did you only wear out 2 tires??? Do you not rotate yours?

Machzel08: no need to be a moron about it. i know a car handles better and it is more important to have rear tires in better shape.
i heard you get better handling by putting wider tires in the back..

mitdr774: i wore out the front by peeling out too much. how often are you supposed to rotate them anyways? miles??

Every 6K miles or when you wear them down to much before 6K. Dont spin your tires so much.

just put 2 new of the stock size on there so you can keep em rotated. But you prolly wont keep the trans in there long enough to worry about the tires anyway. But yeah just go with another set of stock size tires.

No more stupid digs. fighting on the internet is like running in the special olympics, even if you win, your still retarded.

run the same size on the back as the front. wider tires on the JUST the back wont give u better performance and will just add useless weight to your car. Wider tires all around will give you a better edge.
for future reference, change your tires about every 8-10k km. That way you dont end up with 2 completely bald tires.
lastly, the reason you spin 15-20 times is because you have no tread

You really don't want to do anything to give you more traction in the back than in the front on a FWD car... Our cars already over steer.... do you really want to make it worse?

I personally don't rotate my tires because my front ones are stickier than the ones on the back.

Bridgestone Potenza (re650 in front / re960 in back)... has worked good so far.

say what? did you mean understeer?

cavaliers in stock form don't kick the rear out... they push in the corners...

ok peeling out is ricer behavior and you don't need wider tires in the back unless you want a "look" of a rwd car.

Glad i could be of some wasting of time to you. My job is done for today.

Honestly your the one asking the pointless questions and telling us you peel out too much. You have basically a 16 second car and peeling out is honestly not proving anything, for 16 seconds you do not need to heat your tires up crazy. I most likely know more about the J cars than you ever will but i forgot im a newbie so, will a intake gain me horsepower?

As far as the "KNOWLEDGE" goes, i am very knowledgeable and i know that wider tires in the back of a FWD car is pointless. Thanks for letting me waste your time again

You have Front wheel drive car. Why in the hell would you put wider rear tires on it?

J-body's under steer like crazy. Putting wider back tires on will only make it worse.

Just get two new STOCK sized tires.

Spalattero / Dream Car: 2dr '98 skylark TURBO
please explain !!

There were only minor changes to the lineup for the 1997 model year, which was the last year that it would be available to the public in showrooms. A single-model 1998 Skylark sedan was produced for fleet-only sales, mostly to auto rental companies. Most of these 1998 models, the last year that Buick used the Skylark name and produced a compact car, were eventually resold to the general public as used cars. Buick never provided a direct replacement for the car and potential buyers of an entry-level Buick were directed to the mid-sized Century.

I am aware of that. I own a 4dr '98 skylark custom. I know about the production years.
The skylark was my first car and it ripped pretty good. Don't know of too many 6cylinder automatics that chip the tires in 2nd gear... with 130,000 miles too. If you don't like the car, am happy for you :-)

YES it has. That's the problem. Too bad people can't stop giving their opinion about everything else that's not even relevant.
Bunch of people with not much to do but give @!#$ to people on these forums...
