Ok, after running all over the place and pissed at the people that sold me my after market rims... i discovered that our cars have HUB CENTRIC WHEEL DESIGN.!
WTF!!!! and now i feel like a complete ignorant fool.
NOW, FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING SOME RIMS FOR YOUR RIDE....Consider this:
http://www.wildweasel.ca/j-body/HowTo/wheelinstall.asp (thanks to mr. Weasel)
Bottom line:
YOU NEED TO GET HUB CENTRIC RINGS FOR YOUR WHEELS, OR YOU'LL FELL LIKE A PIŅATA AFTER 80MPH!!!
Don't be like me, don't be a fool, and READ all the post in this site...do your homework.

hmm I've never had to? maybe its in the rim design? some are hubcentric?
speed limit around here is 65 and i usually don't go faster than 70.
but yeah...

Common knowledge to most of us that have been around here for a while, but not common knowledge to the common person. Even when I first bought my rims many years back, it wasn't really common knowledge to get the hub rings. Not until I took it to my mechanic who asked where my rings were. It was then that I got my lesson on the hub centric setups. Many people have absolutely no issues not getting the rings. I personally never had an issue without them, but went ahead and ordered them and put them on. No reason to cheap out on something that doesn't cost much, yet is a very important part of the suspension and mechanical well being of the car.
FYI most aftermarket wheels are what they called LUG CENTRIC so that you tighen the lugs hand tight all the way around, then tighen them slowly in a star to center the them on the hub. Also after that you can get done lower the car to let all the wheels on the ground, but the car still susported up. Then trouqe the wheels to 100. You don't need hub rings, but it helps if you do have it.
basically my opinion behind it is, if they make hub rings that will fit fit between the hub of your rim and the hub of your car then you should get them.
alot of vibration issues with aftermarket rims can be solved by hub centric rings, or atleast made better. of course proper balance helps too, but you get what im trying to say.
the other thing thats great about hub centric rings...
rims that are lug centric when not centered out properly will spin elipitcally (like an egg or an oval) rather than the circle that they are supposed to. in theory, they should center them selves out when they are tightened, but this doesnt always happen (especially with steel rims, like winter wheel and tire packages).
so basically, what can happen is the lugnut doesnt sit right in the hole for the lug and can pinch on part of the flange. if this goes un noticed and the vehicle is driven on, it can eventually work itself loose from the pinch (and vibrate annoyingly because it isnt spinning in a perfect circle).. if it workes itself loose from that pinch you may now have a wheel with a loose lug nut or two and can eventually work the wheel off the car completely!
i know it doesnt sound to plausable, and i know i probably didnt explain it properly, but i hope some of the guys here who work in tire shops and such (TRD cav, Ling, Shane Hewiit, etc) will now what i am talking about aswell and be able to clarify if there is something i missed.

I've never used them and havent had any problems and thats going 120 mph...

All I know is that when I had my 18s I never had hubcentric rings and every time I would take the wheels off I would always end up shearing a stud completely off. With my new rims I have hubcentric rings and have never had a problem.
I've changed wheels several times...never sheered a lug...EVER
my first set were a huge issue... my 18"s now, i got exactly in 5x100 and the inner bore is smaller than most rims 70.1mm instead of 73mm. Slapped some hubcentric rings on em and smooth sailing up to 108mph at the track. But damn, can you feel every imperfection in the track with low pro's and a stiff suspension... ha ha.

thats the common problem without hub rings since the weight of the wheel is on the studs and not the hub

Yes! I've seen it happen at the shop a few times, but that is why you use a torque lugs with a torque wrench.
hmm never used them before always just made sure they were tigh, any good places that sell then for a decent price

any specialty wheel shop in your area should be able to get them if they dont stock them. there is also online options such as ebay and online wheel shops. they are really common things.

Jegs and Summit both have them if you know the outside bore of your aftermarket wheels.
I pick up mine form www.WheelMax.com for $9.99
