Need help to make sure this is right

I read the FAQ & Wild Weasel's page about offset, but I simply cannot understand it to the level that I'd know what to buy!

I'm looking at a set of RSL Elite on eBay (linked you to that page because it gives more info) and I want to make sure that I know what to look for in sizing. They're 17x7 - what offset should I be looking for? They didn't list it, so I sent a message asking. Weasel's site said that anything wider than stock is pretty much trial & error, but I don't have that kind of money to trial & error with, especially since there are people that should know this stuff here

I need help to understand if these are right before I go ahead and purchase.

Fast reply from the seller - they're 40mm

If I remember correctly anything between 38 and 45 should fit really well. My 18s are 42mm.

17x7 with a 40mm offset is fine.

I wouldn't go much lower than 38mm.
