Widest tire possible on steelies?

the title says it all, whats the widest tire i can run on stock steelies?

i dont know off the top of my head

im assuming 14, i honestly didnt realize there were two different sizes for steelies

for a more difinative responce, they are 15" and there are currently 205's on it right now

I'm pretty sure some people have jammed 225s on the stock rims, but they look pinched, and probably lose most of the benefit of increased contact patch to the tendency for the tire surface to curve when squeezed onto too-small rims.

205 is already oversized for that rim. Stock is 195. I don't think I'd got more than a 215. That's a 6" rim. A 225 tire is almost 9" wide. As Geeky said, you will most likely not see a benefit going much wider. The only benefit I could see is if you were using them for drags, and you had low pressure in them for grip.

If you do go to the 215, I'd get a 60 series. That should give you just about the right overall height.

A 225/55R15 works well, however the only manufacturer of this size is Michelin with their Pilot HX MXM $$$$$ (was the OE tire on a few late 90's 3 series BMW's)

I used a set on a Sunfire for a while. Performance was great, but the extra weight killed my MPG.

ok well id like to get BfGoodwrich g-force T/A KDW-2's and the closest size is 215-55-15...will that be ok?
