question about tires....
Sunday, December 31, 2006 3:49 PM
whats goin on guys, i am new to the whole tire world, and i am getting ready to be in the market for some new tires. in the past i have had a freind that worked at discount tire that always pointed me in the right direction price/traction ratio. but i am just trying to see what is out there, the last set i bought was a set of barums. they were a real nice ride, but they wore out pretty fast. i am just trying to be educated basically on what to look for in a tire, and any and all suggestions as to a few personal favorites. thanks.

BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KWDS.

Pricy, but you can't go wrong with them. Great traction, tire wear, temperature rating.. good tire.

I'm on my second set of Pirelli P-zero nero M&S's. I had almost 50,000 miles on the last set. I probably could've pushed them farther if I had kept up with tire rotation. Good for a daily driver where you'll see light snow on occasion.

A more accurate observation has never been typed. These should be the starting points before any serious performance modification. What's the point of making a serious performer if you can't control it's power?

it depends on your driving style to be honest.

is this thing a daily driver car?

do you push it? how hard?

will these tires see snow?

will these tires see rain?

are you taking it to the track?

this is stuff i always find out before i sell a tires to my customers.

i mean, something like the p zero neros are great, but they are pricey and i wouldnt recomend that to mom and pop that are taking the car to the store and back only 2 times a week and thats it.

if you are looking for good performance for the price and push it sometimes, i would look for soemthing like a BFG Traction t/a in etiher the h or v rating, your choice. or even a lower end potenza like a 950 (great tire but discountined) from bridgestone, but they will probably wear down faster than the BFGs.

if you push it really hard, something like the BFG G-force sport is a great tire when it comes to price for performance, or something like the potenza 050 or 050a's (the a being a symmetrical rather than directional). i wouldnt run these in the snow.

if you take it to the track or just want max performance, the g-forse kd's are one of the best you can get. they are assymetrical and directional, so a right and left tire need to be orderd.

see im partial to the bridgestone and BFGs. i currently sell the BFGs at work and we use to seel the bridgestone, so i have more expirience with them versus other tires.

well these tires will not see snow, we do sometimes get ice, but the car is parked if we do. the car is daily driven, and i do plan on taking her to the track. i do tend to push it from time to time in the corners, what can i say, there is nothing like somone talking @!#$ about a cavalier, just for you to leave them down a windy road... haha. in any case, i think thats about it. right now the car is down and out due to an @!#$ running me off the road, and i am just looking for some nice rubber to throw back on her when shes back on the road. hopefully late spring.

If you want the best of the best.

G-Force KDW (like what was stated)

Or Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3.

I can vouch for the eagles... oh man can I vouch (guess what I have on my 'Rolla).

ok guys well its that time, and i found out i get 10% above cost, so its time for some tires. i have been looking, and i came accrossed the nitto neogens. anyone have any feedback on these? seems like a good price and still not lacking in tire. heres a link to show everyone what i am looking at

the neogen is supposed to be great for those with lowered cars, and somewhat negative camber. increased tread on the insides, so the tire wears evenly.

I have had 2 sets of Yokohama AVS ES-100's and love them. They are great in the rain and wear well. Very responsive and reasonably priced. They look great too.

I just bought some Neo Gens yesterday for the Cavvy. Very low mileage rating but supposed to be a good tire.
