Tires for my rims
Wednesday, April 18, 2007 1:52 PM
I recntly bought a set of new rims off my friend (he bought them for his cav, but he wrecked it). They are 17X7.5. What size tires should i use? i was thinking 215/45/17 I do not have a drop on my car, so i was just wondering if this size tire would fit on them and i would not have rubbing.
These are my first set of rims, so please forgive me if this is a stupid question, i just dont want to buy 215/45/17 tires and they not fit.
Also, i was on www.edgeracing.com and found Toyo Proxes 4 and i was plan on buying them. Has anyone bought tires from this website??? How is edracing.com???
Any help would be great.
Thanks

you could go with a 245/45/17 or a 245/40/17 Good year eagle F1 GS-D3... got them on the Trans Am and they are pretty sticky even for it with 400rwhp 410lbs/tq and i think i personally am going to put them on my sunfire too... but the 245/45/17 they say will fit on a 7.5" wide rim... here is the link to them any way Good Year Eagle F1 GS-D3

no he cant. 245/45/17 is too big and too wide to fit. 245/40/17 will throw off the speedo and is also too wide. now a 235/40/17 may fit and be ok

well i just went to the local tire place, and they test fit a 215/45/17 and it fit good. they alos put on a 225/45/17 and they wouldnt cuz it would have rubbed. i saw it in person, so its not like they could lie. i dunno why the 225 wouldnt fit cuz everyone one here said it would (searched after i posted) but they didnt. i dunno, i just went with the 215. also, does anyone else's tires stivk out. when he put them on, the tires/rims stuck out like a half inch......
thanks

depends on your offset of the wheel. if its like a 35-38mm offset then yea it will stick out a bit. i had the same width rim but i had a 48mm offset. it stuck out a tad but not much

after thinking about this all day at work..i noticed that the stock ones stick out a lil bit. it's only down by the edge of the fender cuz the car sorta curves in there. if the mudflaps would be on the car, the wouldnt stick out at all, so im not worried about it. ill post pics when i get them put on on tuesday and show ya what i mean

the amount he is going to be off by going with a 245/45/17 is going to be soo small... you dont have to hit the exact over all diameter, its going to be off a bit but not but enough to throw it hugly out

its going to be almost 2 mph off which is going to mess up your odometer over time also. like a said if he wanted a wider tire he could get a 235/40/17. it would be a smaller sidewall but a wider tire and it will only be off by .5 mph

well i finally got them put on today, so i took a few pics for ya to see... i know i need a drop but im waiting till my warranty is up before i do that...on with the pics...

The last one is what i was sayin by the tire sticking out, the guy who put on my rims said i would probably run into trouble when i want to get that inspected....i dont think i will...

comments are welcomed......

looks good . i wouldnt worry about how the wheel is out, its so little. alot of trucks have tires that stick out alot more than that.
did you go with the toyos? how do you like the setup so far?
