Thnx. It's just that i searched tirerack for 225/60/14 tires and those two where the only brands available. They didn't have any hits for 215/65/14 either.
Try a 215/60/14. Those were the OE size on older Z24s, and BFG makes (made as of 4 years ago) a Comp T/A HR4 in that size. Loved them when they were on my Z24.

Well exactly what are you looking for in a tire??? If your just looking for optimal road performance, go with the Avids. They have better tire wear and they do better for tire wear and weather.
I am not a big fan of the BFG radials. Something about BFG's is they are made with a softer rubber, which means they dont last as long, but they provide good traction. In that particular size your not going to get much of a "performance tire."
As far as a road tire, I would maybe look at a Michelin Harmony... or probably the Avids, b/c they do last a little bit longer.
I'm looking for a good tire to replace my stock BF Goodridge something majjigers (I think they're touring, T/A? It's raining and I don't feel like checking lol). I had recently took it to a mechanic and he said the tires were starting to rot or some@!#$ ... and they needed changing. Then again, he also told me my entire exhaust was hanging from the flexpipe only which ended up being bull@!#$. So I'm not sure I believe anything he says. But I might just get new tires due to mine being old. What I'm looking for:
1) I think the 195's look too thin ... so I want something thicker like 225
2) Don't feel like spending the $$ to upgrade to 17"'s or buy new wheels right now. I'm broke and saving up for new exhaust this summer
3) Increased grip, performance etc ... though I have a 2200 OHV, no boost, no nitrous, etc ... so I doubt my engine would make full use of any of the higher quality performance tires anyway
4) Something that would be a step up from the stocks
OK, I am a tire tech at a shop, I know a thing or two about tires. The mech. prolly said ur tires were dry rotting. Which if they are showing cracks in the tread and around the sidewall...they are dryrotted and you would need new tires.
Now I'm not sure what is ur stock size, but 195/65/14. This means, if I'm not mistaken you have a 5.5" or a 6" wide rim. A 225 witdth tire is meant for a 7.5" wide rim. so you would have a big lip between the rim and tire...I don't think you would like the look of that.
If you want a wider tire...the only thing I could tell you is maybe get bigger rims, or just go up to a 205.
I work at Merchant's Tire, so we sell both the avids and radials. As far as a tire with good grip...see if you can get a BFG Traction T/A. or otherwise the radials will prolly give you the best traction. Like I said there isn't much as far as a performance tire for a 14x6 inch rim.
BfG Tractions T/As are what I have on the rear of my cav. I put them on to replace the stockers when one went flat last fall. Love em. Cheap, Step up from stock, and seem like they are quite a bit quieter.
Only downside is its a little less milage on the tires since they are directional tread. Should'nt be too much of a worry if you keep your car aligned and tires rotated but it does make rotations less convenient to do.

Rob, thanks for the info ... yeah, i think he said they were dry rotting. I just checked BJ's (don't laugh, lol, they have really cheap prices, free mounting and balancing, and free warranty) and they didn't have the tires (or any other good ones at 225/65/14 or 225/60/14). So I'm back to considering upgrading the wheel ... but I just can't find any cheap anough wheels. Personally I just don't like the look of the bigger diameter wheels (17") either unless there is a big brake kit or something ... otherwise it just looks like emptiness behind the wheel (not to mention I heard reduced acceleration, etc).
