can it be done? are there tires that fit the 16" wheel and look good with the stock wheels? will it look decent with stock?
i have been thinking' about it and when the time comes to buy tires, do i get stock size Michelin or kumho OR get low pro(if there is a such tire). not sure if there is and i search but had no luck. can anyone help? thanks

i wouldn't recommend changing the tire size on a stock rim. it will throw off your speedometer. also, it won't look right to have such a small wheel with a tire with a short sidewall on the car. according to your profile, your car isn't lowered either, so that would give you even more wheel gap than stock. i personally don't think it would look right at all. that's just what i think though.
225/50/16 is what I have on my car. Not super low profile or anything but it does give a nicer look....of course I do have a drop too.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

I had 205 45s on my stock wheels when i was still driving my car. No issues with anything for me. Little rougher ride but the improved handling more than made up for that.

Dunlop makes the FM901 in a 195 or 205 45 16 which would work fine and is an awesome tire if you dont mind the slight change in speedo. it will only be off by a MPH or 2.

225-50-16 on stock wheels
becarfull of what you do with your tires... if you go with too small a tire it may not be able to support the wieght of the car even at the maximum pressure of the tire, and you could have a blow out waiting to happen.

I cant see a problem with not supporting the weight. Maybe if you were going down to like 165/13s but not in a 16" wheel. I would go with a 55-45 in 16" any lower = impact bulges.
I like the hole Bridgestone potenza line tires and the new Falken RT-615. Ive had both and would buy both again.

Same size I run. I actually BOUGHT 16" aftermarket wheels to replace the steelies because I like the look of the 225/50/16 compared to the rubber band look. I think it's more of a meaner/more aggressive look. Looks hot Cadwz24.
I just installed the 225/50/16 Goodyear Tripltreds today and they look mean as hell. 80K mile warranty to boot. AND, according to the Goodyear distributor in York, PA, that size just came off national backorder.

tire pressures for a vehicle are a higly engineered thing of wonder. they dont just spit out a number and hope for the best. they are a very thought out and tested process.
since we dont have access to the same process to engineer what pressure should be put into a tire to make it ride proper, we use something called a load inflation table. in oreder to maintain the same load that the stock tire does for a given vehicle, we have to determine the pressure required to maintain the same load in the new size. for some sizes and models of tires, this just simply cant be done because it exceeds the maximum inflation pressure that the tire is capable of as indicated on the side wall.
unfortunatly i dont have my inflation tables with me at the moment as i am not at work or at home, so i cant tell you off the top of my head what those sizes of tires would need for inflation but i can almsot gauruntee that it is more than those sizes will be cable of.

a local tire place tells me that the falken RT 615' are not order ready. something about they are not released yet?
how much were the Goodyears?
noob question but what is the stock size tire for the 99 Z24's 16 inch rim because three tires are one size and one is different? thanks

Don't get lower profile tires on the stock wheels. It will look stupid and out of place and cause a number of issues.
If you want a lower profile tire because you think it looks better, you need to get bigger wheels.
225/50/16's are fine because they're not actually shorter. The sidewall profile is a function of the width so since they're wider, but with a lower "profile", they become the right size.
Click my sig to get to some more information on the topic. If you get 205/45/16's, the car will look flat-out retarded.
a little off topic, but did kevin get a mazda???
ok i lied its a lot off topic lol

Not yet. I've put my deposit down and now I'm just waiting for the car to be built and shipped.
Sunfire is going into storage for a while.

From the side, they'll look just about identical to the stock 205/55/16's. They're just a bit wider.

That's what I run on my Sunfire GT in the summer. It looks good & handles better with the wider footprint.
