Falken Ziex ZE512 + Snow = not so good
Monday, January 22, 2007 9:24 AM
I just had these tires for my winter wheels. they are supposed to be a all season tire. with a decent M+S rating. well the car accelerates fine but will not stop with them at all. instant ABS as soon as your on the brakes. this is in about a dusting worth of snow. so needless to say I put my steels back on.

i checked some of the ratings on them and they seemed to get good ratings. for now they got a 3.3 out of 5. 3 being very good and 2 being good. maybe be a dumb question but are they directional tires? if so are they rotating the right way?

Thats what we have on my wifes Grand Am GT, and they work great, and they don't even have a lot of tread left.

yea they're directional facing the right way. They just really do not stop at all in the snow. They take off fine but like I said no stopping. They work great in the rain and dry weather. I know that they're a high performance all season but still.

The best tires for snow are winter tires. All seasons aren't meant for winter but they throw on a rating and do what they can to accomodate those who want to use the same tires all year around. Personal opinion anyway. Not saying this is fact. This is just what I've been lead to believe.

do you know how to drive in the snow?

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

yea I do know how to drive in the snow. and wow this post I thought was dead. been driving in the snow for a few years now. Ice as well. I'm sure the car being lowered doesn't help much either.

I have ze512's on my sunfire (17's) and I got my fiancee them during the summer (14's) and they work great in the snow. I've had mine on for a few years now with no problems, unless there's a ton of ice, in which case only studs or tire chains is going to get you going or stopped better.

I don't care who makes the tire, a wide tire will not handle as good as a skinny tire in snow. Hence I run 185/75/14 SNow tires on my steel wheels...I stop, go and turn where some trucks can't

oh, and being lowered only hurts when you run out of ground clearance, otherwise won't hurt ya a bit

I dropped the pressure down to 30lbs in the tires and they have been great. I was runnin em at 35 before. they have alot more grip and stop alot better now.

most low pros suck in the snow because they are not designed for the snow. plus you cant go by traction ratings because that doesnt involve snow. all traction ratings are just how good the tires ability to stop in the rain. trust me i work in a tire shop. and its not town fair tire, or pep boys.
