I am going to paint my stock 01 Z wheels gunmetal. But i want to keep the lip silver, and maybe some other parts. My question is what should i use to strip the stock clear coat off the wheels, and since i dont want to paint the lip should I try to leave the stock clear coat on the lip. Or should I strip the whole wheel and put the new clear coat on the lip at the same time i clear coat the rest of the wheel?
I am trying to decide if i should use a chemical, or sand the stock clear coat off. If chemical what is the name and where do i get it? If sand how should i do it? By hand, powertool, or sandblast? I have searched but everyone seems to do different things, some people simply clean the wheel and paint. I am not expecting it to last forever, maybe a touch up once a year. I know thats a lot of questions but everything i have read about this changes between people.
Time isn't really an issue, i cant drive for a month anyway so i am just going to take off the wheels and take my time doing this right.
