I went through the FAQ and tried using the search option too but no luck so far. The FAQ only mentions tire sizes up to 225mm width. I found a set of 235/40/17 tires for a really good price, and I was wondering if I'm going to have fitment issues on my Cavalier. I'm pretty sure I can make them fit with the right offset wheel, but I wanted some insight, hopefully from someone who has already tried. If it's possible, what width and offset do I need for the wheels? If ride height will be an issue, I'm going with Eibach sportlines, so 1.7 front 2.3 rear.

I bet you will run into rubbing and scraping issues even with the right offset. Those tires should be on a wheel thats atleast 8"s wide and with the sportlines drop, atleast in the rear I think you will have problems. Not to mention that its going to throw you speedo and odometer off.

Speedo would only be off a little bit, like 1 or 2 mph. I did the calculations already. I'm looking for the widest possible tire and I know a 225mm will fit, but in a 15" size I would need 225/55/15 to match the speedo calibration, and in that size it's nearly impossible to find street tires. I already tried on a set of 225/50/15 on 15X7 wheels. They looked pretty good and fit nice but according to the local Sheriff Deputy, the speedo is off by 4 mph. It's no big deal, I can get it recalibrated, I'm just looking for rubber at this point and I'll go from there.

The sticky used to mention the tire size calibrations. I have 235 45 r17 Cooper ZEONs and they fit fine (.2 MPH OFF @ 60 MPH.) I have a Bomex body kit and the stock fender wheels and mine never rub. My wheels are 17x7 ADR. If I knew the back space I would be glad to tell you. Stock height won't give you ANY complications if you have the same backspace on 17x7s as I do BUT, I'd be a little weary of doing the lowering. Perhaps you should go with a set of adjustables just in case so that you can lower it and then make the necessary height adjustments if they rub?

I'm not sure just yet. Part of it will depend on how the car looks after I lower it and wether I put on a kit. But regardless, 15 or 17, I'm more concerned about what will rub and what won't when I drop the car. The calibration is just another factor that will determine what size wheel I need to get the tire width and not throw the speedo way off. I know that as is I have about a half inch between the inner tire sidewall and the strut assembly, and that's on stock RS 15s and 205/60/15 tires. A buddy of mine that works at Car-X just put 225mm 16" tires on a customer's Z24 (2000 or 2001) and I got a chance to take a look before it was picked up. There was still room between the tire and the strut assembly and there was plenty of clearance arond the fender too. The car had been lowered about 2 inches so I should be okay if I stick with 225s.
